Need help on how to prevent uti infections and what causes are!?!

Question: so about two months ago, i had my first uti infection. which my mom believed to be from fooling around with my boyfriend. the night before i found out i had it, i was at my friends house and i took a tums thinking thats what the pain i was feeling (if that makes any sense). the next day, i was having trouble urinateing. today, i woke up with what feels like a running cramp, or those swimming cramps you get right after you eat. and i relized that last night i had sex with my boyfriend. i havent had any trouble useing the bathroom, but do you think this is just a case of latic acid in my muscles from the "workout" i had the previous night, gas pain, or is it another uti.

if it is a uti, could i get rid of it myself without going to the doctors, if my mom finds out, ill be screwed. :[

20% of women have a reoccurrence of a UTI infection, so your case isn't uncommon. Do not hesitate going to the doctor's-- in sever cases, untreated infections can cause death. A good website is <www.urologychannel.com/uti>. It gives information on the link between UTI infections and sex, treatment, and risk factors that you can review. UTI doesn't necessarily have to be a result of sexual intercourse, many children, especially under the age of two, also get it. Unless the infection is caused by chlamydia or another STD, your mother won't know what brought on the infection.

drink cranberry juice to flush the urinary track. that will prevent it. im not too sure of the cause

It can be caused by hot tubs or swimming pools, vigorous sex, or your partner screwing around with others.
Maybe you should heed your mother's advice and quit having sex with this guy, you know, just to rule the last two causes out of the equation.

UTI's are terrible- I used to get them all the time. It can be from having sex. To make them stay away- drink lots of cranberry juice or take a cranberry vitamin. Wear cotton underwear and always urinate after sexual contact! Also never stay in anything wet (including bathing suits) for long periods of time.
You can get UTI's from plenty of other ways as well. My little niece (4) gets them so you can explain to your Mom that, as will any DR. Dont worry= but your going to have to see a Dr to get rid of one if you have it right now. If you dont it can turn into a kidney infection. Please take my advice and research UtI's and all the things you can do to avoid tehm I hope you feel better soon@!

This is something that's really dangerous if it isn't treated. It can turn into a kidney infection and that can turn into something that causes you not to have babies.

It's really important that you go to the doctor.

I think it's caused by sex when your bladder is full. Taking cranberry pills (can get them at the drug store) will help with preventing it from happening again. But you need to go to the doctor to get medicine to heal what you have now. Really important.
