When is it safe to go jogging after spraining your ankle?!

Question: I sprained my ankle a week and two days ago playing soccer. I sprained it pretty bad, but I haven't been able to go to the doctors because he went on vacation for the holidays. I am able to walk with little pain, however, I still have to limp a little bit. When do you think I should start jogging again to get back in shape?

When you feel like you can walk without pain or a limp you should be able to start jogging again. In the meantime, follow standard first aid tips to help heal that ankle:

1.) Keep it elevated on a pillow, a chair, an foot rest, anything that's around you - this will help relieve any swelling, and reduce any that is already occurring

2.) Wrap it in an ace bandage if you have one handy

3.) Ice it - I would do it once an hour for 20 minutes each time. Once you start feeling a little better you can do it less (every other hour, and so on)

4.) Take tylenol or something comparible to help you with pain

5.) STAY OFF of it as much as possible - you don't want to aggravate it more than you already have

As far as exercise goes, do some stuff that doesn't involve your legs... crunches, lift small weights. You don't have to be completely immobile, just stay off that ankle.

Hope this helps! Feel better! :-)

2 weeks

first see medical professional, then start jogging.

No.Rest your ankle,do as much as possible to not move these days.Just lave it alone and it will eventually heal.

not until it heals, you may damage it more. sit it out for a while.

obviously when it doesnt hurt to jog anymore

Give it 2 weeks and ice it every once in awhile if there is swelling. Avoid tight shoes also.

It should be safe once all the swelling is gone, discoloration is gone, and you have NO pain.

The best thing for a sprained ankle is time, and staying off of it, that is the same thing a doctor will tell you. Take some tylenol or aspirin/ If the swelling has gone down thats a good sign, but give it some more time, do situps and crunches, and upper body workouts while staying off of your ankle.

before you go jogging, check with your doctor, dont take any chances of spraining it again, or even breaking it! right after your doctor gives you the ok, you should probably wait another day, just to be safe

no stay off of it and give it time to heal or esle you will do more damage. and go to another doc in the meantime.

I think no......wait a few little days when you think you are better.............. there's a possibility that you may sprain your ankle again.......

I wouldn't start jogging again until you can do it with little or no pain (depending how bad it is you could be out for a while) as you don't want to risk injuring it even worse.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Don't jog, you should barely walk. If you jog on it you will only risk making it worse and it will hurt like a mother! You should just do other excersizes if you're worried about missing soccer. If you really worried about it, see a massage therapist who will be able to help you recover faster. But do not jog! Please!

no theres a set of movements for a sprain look at webmd.com and heres a hint do floor exercises but dont do any thing to stress the foot and ankle just do sit-ups leg lifts and push-ups OK OK light weights also but dont jump and run and do heavy pressure that joint could be nursing a hairline fracture

when there is no more pain just do ankle rolls.

When it doesn't hurt anymore.
Pain is usually a good indicator so if it hurts.. lay off it and wait until the swelling and pain go away.

When it's not painful.

You should not have to wait while your doctor is on vacation. Some other MD is taking his/her calls. There are also walk-in clinics.

Heat/Ice alternate but not for more than 20 minutes.
Elevate
Some OTC anti-inflammatory
REST

See a doctor, you may need an x-ray to rule out any hairline fracture.

Safety First!

nope
if it still hurts then start again a week after it feels better
if you want to keep in shape without jooging
do crunches or push-ups , leg lifts
stuff you can do at home

just a sprain ...walk it off if no swelling then go for it asap

When your ankle stops hurting, Then try a little jogging on it, Good luck, I hope your ankle improves soon.
