Bad back: have you ever had a back-ache settle in your arm, before?!

Question: yesterday i had the worst back pain of my life. i took advil, oxy, advil,advil..
i was miserable. it so bad the pain was spreading from my hip and tail bone ,up my back to my left arm, and down past the elbow.

today ,knockwood-my back is it's normal 'not great but i'm used to it-self' , but my ARM .. i can barely move my left arm.

it's sort of in my left shoulder blade, too, but the inner arm, just above the inner elbow area ,feels like it got the shitte kicked out of it,today. (well, actually it's pretty much all up and down the arm-but thats the worst spot)
like, i can't even move it. i have to hold it as if i were wearing a sling. not too bent up and not extended all the way out.

is it a pinched nerve somewhere? can i fix it? i really want to fix it. where would it be pinched? in my shoulder blade? or actually in my arm,by the worst soreness.?will i mess it up even more , if i try to massage it out, or should i just keep heat on it and leave it alone?

help?

What works for me is having someone pull my legs, seriously I seem to get compressed in the lower spine and lying on the bed I can hang on to the headboard while having my legs pulled with steady tension for 15-20 seconds each.

You might also want to try pressing with your thumb on the inside of your forearm a couple of inches below the elbow, I used to have a brace with a bump that would apply pressure there and it relieved the pain I had in my arm for months before one of the many doctors I had gone to suggested it. I think it was simply called a tennis elbow brace.

Hope you feel better, I have my share of aches and it's no fun. My little finger and ring finger on my left hand have been numb since last June when I strained my arm, I almost don't notice it anymore until I drop something because I can't feel it slipping.

I have to agree Do Not go to a DC, I think they are all quacks and they claim to be able to fix anything including the common cold by making an "adjustment" ouch it hurts just thinking about that.

It may be a pinched nerve or an aggravated arm muscle (lats -- comes from your low back and attaches to shoulder blade and arm). Consult with your doctor to find out which one it is or a combination of both and you'll get the appropriate treatment.

See an orthopedic doctor. He'll want to rule out any vertebrae injuries then send you to physical therapy.
They will use exerciser to align your spine back into place which will correct pinched nerves, too.

I had this same thing over the holidays mine started in my right hand, the pain was excruciating and no amount of self medicating would help. I couldn't use my arm for a few days and then it moved to my neck and shoulders on xmas day. I looked like I had whiplash and was begging all my addict relatives for pain pills. I used heat and begged my ex to rub my neck he did and I can now move a little but oddly enough my jaw is killing me wtf is that? My ex mother in law says it is a traveling pinched nerve and a chiropractor can fix it. She's a lunatic I have never heard of a traveling pinched nerve. Who knows but it sure does hurt and no amount of pills seem to work. I feel your pain hun wish I could help.

It sounds like it could possibly be a pinched nerve. I think you should see a Dr to check that and find out exactly what's going on. I hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better babe. I have a screwed up neck and back, too. Be careful while stretching, I know I tend to over-extend by trying to stretch myself loose. It does sound like a pinched nerve though. I don't have much advice other than leave your doctor's call service a message and see what they say. As often as possible, relax in a basic yoga position, lay on your back, arms out flat, palms up, kness bent till your whole back is flat to the floor, deep breaths - it should help your shoulder and arm too since your arm is evenly supported with the rest of your body. Whiskey? Tried that yet? :o

don't be afraid of a chiropractor. find one that graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic and you'll be fine
