Same thing has happened to me... What I do all the time is, painful but worth it, I go to bed early and try my best to get asleep and I set my alarm to that time... It's torturous the 1st night but way worth it in the end once you get used to that schedule again.

My son does this too. He stays up until after midnight when he is at school, then when he comes home, he stays up until 3 or 4 AM and sleeps until noon or later. When he gets a chance, he will sleep over 12 hours in a single stretch (either at school or on break), but again, after staying up late at night - say, after 11 PM. Eventually, when he gets back to the dorm, that first night is tough - he struggles and finally sleeps and from then on, he is back to his usual midnight runs and 8 AM wakeups. He just sucks it up.

Me, I wrecked my sleep clock a few years back when my wife passed away - I was her caregiver (I'm ancient). I have tried like anything to get back to a 10 PM to 6 AM routine, but nothing so far has helped.

I say stop staying up late, and also stop activity after, say, 8 PM so your metabolism AND your brain can slow a bit before the intended bedtime. I'm no expert, but that is what my physician tells me to do...
