How much damage does Tramadol do to you physically?!

Question: Following an accident - I have a supply of tramadol (slow release). I've recovered now, but have some left. Id say about 30 slow release 100mg tablets.
I've gotten into the habit of taking 3 every night and feeling good - comedown is not too bad and im taking milk thistle as i figured it would be my liver that would be most affected.
I've lost weight - but not too much. Now I was thinking about maybe doing this say once a week.
I don't believe psychologically Im dependent on it as I've gone weeks without having any with no problem - but its a nice treat once in a while.
Question is - physically - how damaging is this ? Also - as well as the milk thistle - is there anything else I can take to help my body.
I do not drink while taking them I do have the occasional cigarette (low tar).
Any answers appreciated.
thanks
Rupert.

For the short-term, rarely is this type of medication harmful to otherwise healthy individuals. The issue sounds to be more psychological rather than physical. Three at a time is getting high, not pain management - and I'm not judging you at all. Been guilty of the same thing. Here's the downside to that, you're raising your tolerance level and creating a little beast. It's a synthetic opiate - and they feel good. Withdrawals do not feel good. Also, most MD's will not endorse herbal remedies at all, and there's nothing (herbal or otherwise) that will counteract the tramadol or any other medicine. The mixture of the two may be harmful for all we know. So, taper off slowly with the remainder of the pills. And when you're down to the last one, drink warm milk, or decaf tea (if you must take an herb). Be ready to be a bit uncomfortable, and remember that you are withdrawing. You'll be fine. Please do stop taking oral herbs while you're taking other meds, just to be on the safe side?
