Answers: When you have a bad cough (REALLY BAD)

Why does it hurt so much to cough?

Coughing is a way of body trying to remove mucus from lungs, so when you cough the force of coughing causes the pain - the more mucus in lungs, the more and forceful you will cough to remove it - thus more pain.

Here's some information :

unless you have whooping cough, where you cough so much and so hard that you could break a rib or make yourself throw up.

because of all the fluid in your lungs. you sound like you have an upper respiratory infection. see a doc
