Its best to lie on your left side. your right lung has three lobes, the left one only has two. When you lay on your left side it allows the lobes on the right to fully expand.

I don't remember what website I saw it on, but I read that the best position to sleep in is on your back, because everything is in a natural position.

When you lie on your stomach, it slightly "crushes" your internal organs (I couldn't think of a better word than crushes).

Lying on your right side is okay, but it kind of "crushes" the organs on your right side.

Lying on your left side is a little worse because your heart is included in the "crushed" organs.

So, the best position is on your back, then right side, then left side, and supposedly on your stomach is the worst.

However, I usually lie on my stomach, but I don't find it too extremely difficult to sleep on my back, and it feels better.

i think it is all about your life style...

if your overweight then it will be different cause u probably wont sleep on your stomach... and different things like that.

So its all about how your shaped

I heard that sleeping on your stomach isn't the best choice because you tend to get leg and rib problems. The safest way is to sleep on your back because your body is flat overnight and the food in your stomach isn't rolling around. But I personally find it easier to sleep on my right side.

So far there is not reported death caused by sleeping position, however, sleeping on your stomach was said to cause pressure to your stomach and other major organ. Sleeping on your back (flat) will cause your tongue to drop in your throat and can increase the probability of snoring due to soft palate/oropharynx to relax, and in the case of sleep apnea, to impede the flow of air to a degree ranging from light snoring to complete collapse. Or if you are unconscious, can cause death like what happen during Moscow siege. Based on that, the best would be sleeping at your side. But if you are healthy, who cares.
