What causes tmj?!

Question: I've been to the doctors because my jaw (near my ear) hurts and feels uncomfortable, the doctor said it might be tmj but hasn't really given me any advice on what to do about it. It's been like this for about 2 years now but only recently have I decided to see a doctor about it. Is there any chance of it healing or anything like that? It's really starting to get me down

Hey kirsty, I found a site explaining the causes of TMJ

Hope will help :) Take care and Happy New Year !

Go to WebMd and look up TMJ pain - it will give you some good ideas on causes and treatment

No it doesn't just heal. They can have you use a night Gard. Like a football mouth piece. If that doesn't stop your pain or flare ups then they can do surgery and your mouth will be wired shut. As for myself I just deal with it sometimes I can't open my mouth without my jaw popping

Chances are that it's going to get worse over the years and you might end up needing surgery.

There are some neck streatches that might help alleviate it. I saw that written in an Aaron Mattes book... He's a physical therapist.

I think your doctor is wrong for not giving you advice to treat this condition, you should see a diffrent dr!!
