Has anyone experienced this problem with their tongue ring??!

Question: I got my tongue pierced on Friday (6 days ago). A few hours later (at the most), my tongue became numb from the piercing to the tip of my tongue and I can't bend the tip which is making me talk funny. I went back to the place where I got it done, and the guy who did it was no help. It hurts like hell, and now it's infected (it's still painful and there is a thick, yellow discharge coming out of the piercing hole-I know it's gross, Sorry!!). I have done everything correctly, like brushing my teeth every time I eat something, rinsing with mouthwash several times a day, letting ice chips melt in my mouth to keep swelling down, and eating only soft foods/soups. I cannot go to the doctor because I have no insurance. My question is, has anyone dealt with this and if so, what did you end up doing? Did the numbness go away? I have always wanted to get my tongue pierced, so I am hesitant to take it out. I will, though if I have to. Any info is greatly appreciated.

i got my tongue pierced 10 years ago, and that never happened to me. it healed quickly. it sounds really horrible and painful. by the sounds of it, it is seriously infected. i think you should go to a doctor. you probably need antibiotics. i don't know where you are, but there are free clinics everywhere. at least if you see a doctor, you have a better chance of being able to keep it, if you get anitbiotics. but, if for whatever reason you just cannot find any doctoral help at all, you should take it out immediately. it can get much, much worse.

good luck!!
:)

Take it out. It's nothing but trash & will ruin your mouth!

Hummmmm........no don't have one.

I don't go around getting holes poked in my body. Uncle same put me in plenty of places to get holes poked in it without having some fool behind a jewelery counter poke things in my body.

Take it out, mine didn't do that, it seems there is something wrong.

You need to see a doctor - ASAP - you have an infection that could EASILY move to your brain or spinal cord. I can tell you for sure that the piercing was done wrong. The piercer hit one of your nerves.
PLEASE take care of yourself and get to the Dr.

Best wishes

Leave it a lone. Too much attention on the tongue is harmfull.
Sorry you did it.

Yes take it out.. and if it is really infected you need to see your doctor. No offence to you but that is the stupidest thing to do.. If you get it infected badly they have to cut your tongue.. even if you get past that the ring itself will receed the gums on the back of your teeth and you'll be lucky to not either crack or break a tooth if you keep it long enough.

Hmm my friend had the same problem a few years back and unforturnly her tongue went green. She took the piercing out and according to some people it can affect your teeth as well.

Hmm my best bet would be to go back to the piercing studio and tell them the problem and they have to help you its the law. If they give you a line saying that they cant help you go on a few blogs pages and type in the problem you are having with your piercing ok.

I know this because everything i ger a tattoo done my artist is there for m if anything goes wrong or if i feel pain on the part of my body that i got tattooed on.

if the problem gets worse please see a doctor asap so it doesnt get better.

I hope that this helps.

Oh yeah i meant to say to you that i got my ears piered years back and i got a nasty infection. The infection got so bad that i nearly lost my ears.

let me know how you get on by the way.

It generally takes about a week for the tongue to start going back to it's normal size and during this time it's normal to be in quite severe pain and be unable to talk or eat properly.

The numbness is a common reaction to the injury done to the tongue but it is a bit worrying it's lasted this long for you. It's possible your piercer has hit a nerve in your tongue.

Also the pus discharge from your piercing is really not a good sign, though you say you can't afford to go to a doctor i really must encourage you to do so. Otherwise try swilling some antiseptic mouth wash, diluted with water, take some paracetamol for pain and wait one more day. It might go down but if it gets any worse than this i seriously recommend you get someone to look at it!
