What is Tums used for?!

Question: I have had this weird sensation in my stomach for a few months now, it comes and goes a few times a week but it's really, really uncomfortable. Its like a tight, squeezing sensation, and I have no idea what's causing it. I took two Tums tonight hoping that I would get some sort of relief, and I did. Im pretty sure its not heartburn because I have that too and it feels almost completely different. If its not heartburn, then what could it be?

Do you get the tight squeezing sensation when you have a full stomach or is it because you haven't eaten anything? The only thing I can think of is this: If you haven't had anything to eat, the tight squeezing sensation is the stomach acid doing what it's supposed to do, digest. As with any type of acid, it dehydrates liquids, so perhaps the tight, squeezing feeling you're getting is the acid dehydrating your stomach content, and if that content is insufficient, your stomach feels as if though it is being vaccuumed from within causing tightness. (laugh) It makes perfect sense to me. I am not too familiar with the Tums product but it is to prevent heartburn and indigestion and possibly a few other things like diarrhea (maybe, maybe not). If I am correct, I believe Tums to be a better product than Pepto-Bismol or Mylanta or Maalox because it does not contain harsh ingredients like aluminum or bismuth. Just drink alot of fluids (like more than your 8 glasses a day) and eat a balance diet. If problems persist, I suggest that you see a doctor.

Tums is used for heartburn and indigestion. Also the pain you feel in your stomach could be an ulcer.

Stomach upsets are usually caused by stress. Acid builds up in your stomach and the Tums reduces it. You should try to find ways to reduce your stress and just to be sure, make an appointment to talk with your doctor.
