Abnormally bad calf cramp?!

Question: Just recently, I got my first calf cramp.

It was after I had spent several hours playing ultimate frisbee and tennis, and I'm sure I was dehydrated for most of it.

I came home and laid down for a while, and when I was just stretching (stretching my toes away from me, contracting my calf muscles), my left calf cramped.

It was incredibly painful, and it couldn't hold any weight for almost 3 hours.

I've heard most calf cramps shouldn't last that long, and was just wondering if this was something serious?

I'll definitely try to stay more hydrated in the future, but is there anything else? (I'll try and increase my potassium intake too)

I used to get those too, Id get them late at night and I thought they were part of a nightmare because they were so unbelievably painful. What you need is proper hydration and take some supplements with magnesium.

eating bananas and yogurt should help. i had that when i was a kid. it hurts.

You do NEED to see your doctor, because of the length of time you had that cramp, and because it wouldn't 'hold weight' since the easiest way to RELIEVE cramps is to 'walk them out.' Yes, do eat a banana and an orange every day to get your potassium up, but you also need to see the doctor because your Magnesium may be extremely low ... and there could be an 'injury' to your leg that could make that cramp last as long as it did. SEE YOUR DOCTOR ASAP!
