So I've been trying to quit smoking.....?!

Question: And so far it really hasn't been working out well. I promised my girlfriend that I'd quti because she hates them. But she found out that I've lied on quitting and it made her upset/mad. I've been trying to quit but can't really find anything to help me when i'm stressin' or when I'm upset about something. Most of the time that I smoke the most is caused from her. I smoke American Spirts. They don't containe and additives like other cigatettes. I've tried the gum and it's just not work. Maybe i'm not self motivated. Plus it's harder because I live with a smoker and my best friends are people that smoke, plus they smoke where I work all the time. And sugestions?

You sound like my son-in-law to be. He's quit - 3 times ;-) It really isn't easy, but some things that have made it easier for him (other than his future wife's wish for him to be healthy and live long):

Watch for desire triggers. His biggest to overcome what the coffee/cigarette connection. He quit both. But, if he has any coffee, it automatically triggers a strong desire for a cigarette, so is usually the relapse trigger. Pay attention to see what yours are, and reduce them.

Also, how's your attitude? He always had the impression that smoking and drinking coffee was what made him grown up. It really isn't, and we worked on the psyche of it all.

Stress trigger - big time pitfall. But, have you considered your options when you are stressed? The last time he fell back in was because of stress, totally. So, we now have him call us when something stressful happens so we can talk him down. Do you have a lifeline?

Have you tried black licorice? We found that was a major help for him this last time. We got him a good quality licorice from the health food store, and he is loving the option. It gives many health benefits, but you also have to be careful not to overdo as it can cause blood pressure issue in large, regular doses (3.5 oz for many days in a row).

Make sure you drink plenty of water to help clean out your system. And, if you get the onset of a cold from quitting, treat it with Grapefruit Seed Extract and Mullein tea. My s-i-l has gotten a serious "cleaning out" cold every time he has quit.

If you succumb to the temptation, the sooner you own up and quit again, the better.

Good luck.

Your problem is quite simply. How do you expect to get "better" if you're surrounded by it? You really need to change your living situation and/or find other hobbies/things that will distract you. What are you good at?

Take Care and God Bless You !

First of all, you should quit for YOURSELF!
If she is a non smoker, I can only assume she never smoked before and doesn't understand how hard quitting smoking is. If this is the case, you need to explain that to her.
This sounds like a motivation issue.
I am currently trying to quit smoking myself.
Try smoking only outside. This will limit how much you sm,oke inside, which actually will cut down your intake. I started doing this and it has helped me cut down 75%. I used to smoke a pack and a half a day, and now I only smoke 5-10.
Have you considered the Commit losenge or the patch?
I have done both and the losenge works wel, but my willpower still fades and I smoke as well.
I have made the resolution to be a non-smoker by the end of this year.
I will be getting the prescription from my MD soon, Chantix. If this doesn't help me quit smoking, I am going to attempt to quit with either hjypnosis or oricular therapy.

Good luck.

Nate, buddy, listen up:
Go ahead + smoke all you want. You seem to be rather young, still conviced that nothing can hurt you. Now try to think ahead by 20 years or so. What do you think your lungs will look and feel and operate like in the future? I am confident that it is not a pretty picture.

I read once that you with every cigarette puff you take, you enhale 4,000 chemicals. These chemicals are landing on your lungs, and in time you feel that you cannot breathe as well as before you were addicted to the nicotine craze.

Try to quit smoking - go to the doctor and ask for advice. Perhaps a patch can help you over the rough patches.
Besides that, a smoker has a bad yucky odor on his/her/its breath and clothes, and many people avoid them.
