People with no insurance use hospital ERs for their care, such as it is. By law, they can not be turned away. And yes, the cost is spread among those who can pay.

This is for "emergencies" only though, not routine illnesses, and the ER staff determines what constitutes an emergency.

In many large cities, there are teaching hospitals that often will provide more comprehensive care, even for minor illnesses. Expect long waits and inconveniences at those.

In Louisiana, there is an extensive network of "charity" hospitals that will treat anyone, charging those that can pay. A little like your "socialized" medical system and I think unique in the US.

Actually, in this country, true emergency medical situations are fairly well taken care of. Those with more routine problems are the ones who are most likely to get suboptimal or no care, until the problem becomes an emergency.

Medical bills are the largest cause for bankrupcy in the US.

Most civilized countries have comprehensive medical care for their citizens, paid for with taxes. In the US, we use that money to police the world for multinational corporations.

any hospital will help, just have to go to emergency dept.

Certain hospitals have to treat you. But only certain ones. YOu have to know which hospitals these are in your area. Some will do a sliding scale payment option. It is still astronomically expensive. But you can make payments. There are free clinics to go to in some areas. You have to find all this out on your own. I know someone who went into an emergency room for a blinding headache. They gave him tylenol and a bill for $1,234!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No go to the hospital E.R. they can not turn you away and then when I or some one else who has insurance has to go to the hospital our bill will be inflated to cover the cost of your treatment.
