Vicodin and back pain???!

Question: Vicodin seems to help my back pains....
On the other hand when my friend takes it for migraines it makes her back ache!
how is that????
~Also, do you think the doctor would give me a prescription for vicodin if I let her know about my back pains? Or will she probably presribe something else???

This is a strong medication, it is addicting. If you can get relief from some other type of pain medication you should. I take Ultram, it is not a class 3 drug and it seems to work as well as the Vicodin. You need to remember the body adjusts to pain medications rather rapidly so it doesn't take long until you feel your not getting the same amount of relief. One thing I have found with all pain meds, if you eat something small even just a piece of toast you will get faster relief. Also when you take them be sure to drink pleanty water with it. Also be aware most pain medications can and will cause constapation so you should adjust your diet to compensate. As your friends problem with the back pain what she is most likely doing is waiting until the migraine is going full blast to take the Vicodin. Meanwhile the muscles from her back and neck have tightened and spasmed, when she takes the medication and it starts helping with the headache she realizes how much her back hurts. What she needs to do is take a half as soon as she starts getting the signs of a migraine. Any sparkles in vision, nausea, light sensitivity, notices every thing suddenly sounds louder. Some times by taking a half at the first signs you can stop it from going full blast. Thats what I do and also I use one of those heat and massage pads for my back. If it does continue to develope she can always take the other half. I also have cluster headaches and am on Oxygen therapy for those and what a difference it makes.I don't wait with them any at all as soon as I notice the headache starting I use the oxygen and most times can prevent them. They are two different types of headache and it took me and the doctors a while to actually figure out the differences in the symptoms as they are similar.
I hope this helps, oh yes I doubt the doctor would write you a script for the Vicodin unless she has already done some tests to see if the back can be helped some other way first.

There are better scripts for back pain than Vicodin. Tramadol is designed to target muscular pain and is enhanced when taken with Tylenol. Also muscle relaxors may help too. Your main concern should be locating the source of the pain instead of just trying to alleviate it. Speak to your doctor and have a MRI done to rule out any damage.
Good luck to you

Stay as far away from Vicodin as you can. It is deathly addictive.

Tramadol is much less so, has many less problematic issues and is very effective at handling pain.

How do I know? I have taken both for chronic pain.

hydrocodone blocks the pain receptors in your brain to keep you from feeling pain. Doesn't matter where the pain is from it is all perceived in your brain.
