Tonsillectomy side effects in children?!

Question: My child is four and had a tonsillectomy. It's been a week after her surgery and she is healing fairly. She seems to be happy and acts her normal self throughout the day. However, she has been waking up several times during the night crying for about a minute and suddenly going back to sleep without a problem. She says nothing hurts, but it just seems very odd. Her doctor said it was part of the healing process. I'm a bit concerned about this.

Concern is OK, but there is nothing to worry about unless it continues for an extended period of time or doesn't go away.

Your child has been through a physical and emotional trauma that left her with a painful condition to deal with. She is probably reliving some of that trauma in her dreams,( kind of a mini post-traumatic stress syndrome.) Whenever she wakes up crying, simply hold her and reassure her that everything that hurt her is in the past and that she will soon forget all about it. Talking to your child when she is in that "gray zone" between wake and sleep is an opportunity for you to implant the suggestion in her brain that all is well. She'll soon replace the belief of painful trauma with reassurance that all is well. Just keep on being Mom!

nightmares are common for kids

That sounds normal. Kids can have some strange dreams after a big event. Her whole routine was upset for a few days by the lead up to the surgery, the hospital and surgery, and after the surgery at home.
