Should you take antibiotics for sinus infection? Or let immune system handle it?!

Question: Neither,,,,you need to irrigate the sinuses, ive had sinus problems for years,,, medicine is only a cover up,,,and it comes right back,,,, you need a small pitcher, available most anywhere, walmart has them,,,,,,,,,fill half way with cool, not cold water,, add a pinch of salt,, and a pinch of baking soda.
Do this twice a day for 5 days,, then you can do it once a day,, the swelling will go down,, and you can breathe normally, use it in both nostrils. Yep,, sinus will return,,,you can use all the best pillows,, and mattresses,, and air filters,, but it will return,,,guess we are just unlucky,,, have a good day,,

You should definitely take antibiotics for a sinus infection otherwise it will continue to get worse.

My granddaughter was perscribed antibiotics for hers, and now my daughter just today got some for hers...it takes forever to go away on it's own...

Yes you should. Your body can't fight off a sinus infection. If you catch a sinus infection early you can take products like Musenx, and cold and sinus meds.

Sometimes, but not always. I get sinus infections all the time , so I take flonase(squirt it up your nose). You have to have a prescription for it and it really helps. The only time I've taken antibiotics was when I had pain in my face, neck, and jaw. It felt like my teeth were falling out, and I had major headache.
Most times it will clear up on its own, but you will be in pain for days (mostly headaches). Hope this helps.

You should take antiboitics, i suffer from chronic sinusitis for years. Pain is not very nice especially with one eye swollen from the pain. Immune system won't be strong to fight sinus infection on it own

If your Doc prescribed an antibiotic for you then, yes, take it. Sinus infections are generally bacterial in nature, which requires an antibiotic. Your immune system will try to fight it off but, it can only do so much with a sinus infection. Antibodies protect us against certain viral illnesses but, with bacterial infections, our white blood cells will try to kill off bacteria plus, we will experience a fever because our body heat is trying to destroy the germ. But, once you have a full blown sinus infection, antibiotics are necessary. Be sure that you finish the entire course of antibiotic therapy. Do NOT stop it when you start to feel better. This will cause the infection to return and then, eventually, the germ/bacteria will become resistant to antibiotics. I hope that this is helpful and that you feel better soon.
