What is the best kind of ankle brace???!

Question: What is the best kind of ankle brace?

Ankle Stirrup, elastic brace, figure 8( this is what i was on, it helped a little), hinged braces, ankle strap, and i have also heard that bunion spilnts will help ankle pain??

I have used the figure 8, and it releived the pain after 4 MONTHS! I am out of my excercise group right now for Christmas Break, and I am going back tomorrow. I think the break really helped it!! more than the brace!!! OK, I am going back tomorrow, and i am not going to use the figure8. And i got a pair of athletic works Flash shoes. We are either playing floor hockey, or volleyball, I can't remember. So do you think I am going to hurt my ankle more without the brace?? I still don't have a diagnosis for my ankle pain. I don't have the money right now to see a doc. But should I get a new brace? Do you think I should wear the brace tomorrow? Or go without it? THis is a lot more than the question asked, but i don't know what to do. will i hurt it w/out the brace????

Why do you need a brace? The ankle is supported by muscles, so by exercising those muscles and making them strong, they are the brace. By wearing a brace you are allowing those muscles to weaken. Good Luck

Wear the wrap. Lots of athletes wrap their injuries to play through them.

WEAR THE ANKLE BRACE UNTIL YOUR ABLE TO GO TO THE DOC. ALSO YOU CAN GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAVE THEM BILL YOU LATER

You should be going to physiotherapy, not buying crap at Walmart.
You need to strengthen your ankle muscles by doing special exercises. Your ligaments are probably torn and your bone is going to start building calcium deposits to compensate for the weak muscles. If you don't treat your ankle it will never be the same again.
Go see a physiotherapist. An ankle brace is a bad idea.

I would just but a brace for support and take some Motrin or alive before your meet! it will help you do your best with minimal pain. take it 1 hour before with a small snack.,so it wont upset your stomach. GOOD LUCK!! p.s. go back and find out whats going on with it.

It's a shame you aren't a New Zealander, because then ACC would pay for the doctor's appointment etc. My advice is to keep out of exercise until you can see a doctor about it. I don't recommend bracing it unless you know exactly what you are doing because it could make your ankle worse. The chances are you will hurt it further if you go without the brace.

Try these two web sites. Personally, I think a visit to a physician who can refer you to an orthopedic specialist or a physical therapist for strengthening.
You state that you do not have money, how about health insurance or visit a free clinic? Instead of spending more money on various types of braces, see about professional help. if you are in a lot of pain, a visit to the emergency room might help and they can suggest what is best for support and alleviation of discomfort.
After rereading your concern, for what it's worth, wear the brace for tomorrows' event, your current one and check in with your exercise therapist/leader. If the Christmas break was a help, then maybe you need not to be involved in strenuous sports?
Good luck, have a safe newyear.
