What do you use to ease a migraine?!

Question: My migraines start with a flickery wiggly line, then I go numb down the left side, headache starts thumping and then I usually puke for a few hours. I take migraleve and a nasal thing but nothing really stops the puking or thumping in my head.

WHAT YOU CAN DO;
-lie down and sleep or rest in a dark, quiet room
-apply an ice pack to the paiful area
-take a cold shower
-take simple painkillers
-try to identifify the factors that trigger the headache and avoid them

Consult a doctor if the pain is unbearable or if the recomended measures offer no relief.

my housemate gets them..she usually darkens the whole room...even mild daylight really splits her head

Migralieve helps me or sometimes I use Nurofen for migraines. I always find it best to sleep mine off, haven't had one for a while, touch wood but they usually last a couple of days. I get a pulse on the side of my head or like a crushing pain at the back of my head.

I personally use migraleave but look out for something called Naproxen it can only be prescribed by your doctor but don't ask, tell because Naproxen is not generally used to cure migraines but it normally does the trick

Ice packs help me more than anything. I know a lady who takes dramamine for her nausea. I have to be in a cold cold room with no lights and an ice pack. Fan blowing on me.

This is supposed to be a massive topic and it varies from person to person... check out websites like this

As for prescription drug help see the doctor.

Loads and loads out there regarding it though, seems cases vary more than I first thought. :-)

Believe it or not, I handled my migraines by taking Sudafed (not the new stuff, the kind you have to ask your Pharmacist for). As soon as I felt that first flicker of pain, I'd immediately take Sudafed, a hot shower, and then lay down to sleep. It worked for me as I've realized my migraines were likely allergy related. It's the worse pain in the world though, so you have my sympathies.

Other then a perscription, a dark room, thats quiet and i normally put an ice pack on my head or over my eyes depending on where my head hurts. That helps sometimes. For perscripton I'm on Topamax it help but its an every day med.

Hi. Please check out this page: www.emofree.com
It teaches you how to eliminate anxiety and pain (as well as lots of other problems) through a therapy called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) which is based on a form of acupuncture which you can do to yourself without needles. You stimulate the energy points of the body to bring about release from whatever it is that is troubling you. It has a free manual you can download and learn how to do it yourself as well as lots of useful information.
In a matter of minutes you can bring about total relief.
I hope this helps and that you find a solution to your problem.
Wishing you all the best.

A dark room and sleep, not always possible though I know.

Naproxen is NOT recommended for the treatment of migraine. It is used for pain and inflammation in rheumatic disease (including juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and other musculoskeletal disorders; dysmenorrhoea; acute gout.
Have you been to see your GP about your migraines? I really would recommend it.
A drug called Pizotifen is really good for prevention of vascular headache including classical migraine, common migraine, and cluster headache, but it is prescription only.
On a more complementary level, you could try feverfew. You can get it in capsule form from any good health shop. Also try blending some lavender and geranium essential oils in a base oil (2 drops of each) and rub a little onto your temples.
When the pain gets really bad, try laying down in a dark room. I hope you feel better very soon.

I was prescribed Amerge by my neurologist and it helps a little.. I have acquired these tips during my 3 years of dealing with migranes: Darken the whole room, keep the room cool, use an ice pack, do not lay flat down- prop a pillow under your head bc laying flat triggers it more, no sound or lights, and take ur migrane meds RIGHT when u feel it coming on- Hope i helped.

here are 7 different tips for easing the pain and preventing those headaches altogether. Whether you are searching for a natural solution to migraine management or just looking to change your routine to help combat the nuisance, these suggestions may help if you suffer regularly.

One of the very best tips on the list rings true for not only big headaches, but all kinds of biological regularities. Sticking to a schedule every day sets your internal clock. Everything from your metabolism to blood pressure gets affected by when you start your day. So when somebody sleeps in, for example, they are scrambling that internal clock mechanism. Voila, migraine!

Magnesium is another important aspect of easing migraines. If some people don't get enough, headaches can set in. Try taking 200 milligrams a day over the course of a couple months to see if it alleviates migraine frequency. Of course, check with your doctor first to make sure this supplement is okay!

I take prescriptin Imitrex for my pain. This has been a lifesaver for me. I take it both in the pill form and also as an injection for a quick shot of pain relieve. You should talk with your doctor about what's right for you. God bless you and everyone who deals with migraine pain.

Your GB Meridian seems blocked on left side.
Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.

There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.

It may disappear naturally too.

To RELIEVE your headache i would turn off all lights, get a cold washcloth/ice pack for your forehead and lay down for a nap.EXCEDRINE MIGRAINE works GREAT!
I suffer from headaches and advil, tylenol never works for me.
but excedrine migraine is the best--i defiently recommend it.
hopefully it works for YOU!

Migraines may be caused by:
*not getting enough or too much sleep. 8-9 hours is good.
*caffine
*A poor diet
* certain seasonings
*certain foods-just pay attention to what
you are eating and if you get a headache after eating that food your headaches could be triggered by that.
*allergies
*periods
[MAKE SURE YOU ARE EATING!]

FYI:: if you take a medicine over and over again your body will eventually become immune to it meaning that medicine WONT work for you anymore so i would try taking something else and switching them off everytime you take medicine

Hope i helped.
hang in there!
good luck :D
