Verryyy bad eyesight!?!
Question: my eyesight is really bad..its -5 but this was from an opticion i another country..i have tried my friends glasses on and i can see clearly through hers..hers are -5.....but i havnt been to the opticion for a few years..ive got an appointment for next week...the last time i went i kind of cheated on my eye test...he thinks my eyesight is -2.5...oopz...but this time i wont..how much should i be able to read of the letters on the wall? how many lines should i be able to read. and just another question..how bad can your eyesight go?

Look, I know it can be embarrassing to have horrible eye sight, but if you cheat on an eye exam, you only hurt yourself. Plus. When you go in for an exam...the "stand and read the wall" part is only the basic. Onced they determine you need glasses they will use a machine with hundreds of combinations of lenses to determine your exact perscription. ("which is better 1..or..2")...this one, if you cheat, 1 the doc will be able to tell if there are inconsistancies in you answers, and you might very well get stuck with a pair of glasses that don't mean crap. That would be an expensive waste. There is also an auto-focus machine that can give them your perscription in about 5 seconds...you look into it and it does everything. You can't cheat on that one.
So I know you say you won't cheat, so I'm finished ranting.
ok the Wall Chart, there are 11 lines, and for "normal" vision you should be able to read up to atleast line 6 with one eye...line 8 with both. you can read more with both because you can focus better..same theory as depth perception.
...-2.5 I believe by the way is somewhere around 20/200. Before I had the lasic surgery (which is awesome)..that was my perscription. I could still function with out glasses or contacts, but the world was much better when I wore them. on the wall chart I could barely read line 2.
Why would you cheat on an eye exam? That is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Just go to the doc and face the music.
Eyesight can get so bad you won't be able to see at all anymore. And if you 'cheat' (usually they can catch you), you will just risk damaging your eyes even more by getting a bad prescription.
