A cold had probably settled in your chest and worsened. Antibiotics do not treat colds. They don't treat any form of virus. What you have sounds like bronchitis. Be glad you are coughing it up - that's really important. You may need help clearing it up if it worsens or just won't get well. Mucinex (the one without the other letters after the name) has been recommended to me many times by doctors and other people. It's one medicine that works pretty well for me without side effects. It will thin out that mucus and help get rid of it. However, if mucus becomes thick and deeper green (or brownish, grayish, or reddish) it indicates probably infection, and an infection is probably bacterial and might then need antibiotics. Mucinex isn't an antibiotic - you will need to see a doctor so that he/she can determine if you need antibiotics.

mucus

you should go to the dr asap

Sounds like bronchitis. See a doctor.

its mucus.

your probably have a sinus infection of some kind.

the doctor can give you antibiotics.

sounds like you have a chest infection, you need to see your doctor and get antibiotics

Oh! And it smells gross right? well it happened to me but no I dont know what it is. But nothing bad.

It's just slime in your throat, and it is normal that there is more there when you are sick. Just keep coughing it up, don't swallow it again. It originally comes from your nose, so make sure to blow your nose often, and it will be gone within a few days :)

green means thers an infection in your system. you need to see the doctor aas soon as possible as infections can turn into pneumonia. call your doctor now.

Yup ^ . yellowish mucous is fairly normal and is nothing to worry about, a simple anithistamine like benadryl would dry that up.

But, green? That shows infection and although you don't want to dive into antibiotics for every little thing, a trip to your MD would be a good idea.

It's just the cold coming out of you but you can go to the doctor and see if it is something else.

you have a cold, more specifically an upper respritory infection. It's gross but completly normal. You can take antibiotics to help fight the virus (just a cold virus), Cough supressants to combat the symptoms. You said it's greenish and yellowish...it can also be a little brown..that's bacteria normally (for non-smokers)..and if you really start hacking, you may even see a trace amount of blood..from your raw scratchy throat. BUT be warry if you start seeing a good amount of blood. That can mean bad things and you might need to see a doctor soon. You should be fine however. Try taking really hot showers it should help you loosen up the mucus thats stuck in you system and help you cough it out faster.
Quick explanation of why this happens. The mucus is there to protect your respirtory system from viruses and the elements all the time...when you do get sick your body doubles it's efforts and the mucus layer gets big enough to obstruct the flow of air...akin to choking on something. That is why you will cough to expell it.
