I had many, many cortisone injections in my shoulder for a torn rotator cuff. The shots did not hurt because they were a "cocktail"a oflidocaine and cortisone. I had problems with this shoulder for almost 20 years. It finally took a Dr. with a little common sense to have an MRI done of the shoulder.
It took surgery to correct this problem. Recovery time was about 3 weeks (for me) and damn well worth it!

I had one done on my knee. They put some lidocaine in first though so I didn't feel too much besides some pressure. Ask them if they can do that for you. It's only in there for a few minutes. After it I was pretty sore for a few days, but the results were so worth it!

I had a cortisone jab in my elbow joint some years ago. It has to be a large needle to do the job but as I recall, there was a smaller injection to numb the area. There was no pain, the only discomfort was the time it took to get the stuff into the affected are. I'm sure that this slight discomfort will be worth it. I had no more trouble with mine and I'm sure you'll be OK.
Good luck!

My wife had a "ball" on the front of her left shoulder and progressively kept getting worse and towards the end her arm was almost useless. She tried Cortisone shots and for her it was extremely painful to the point that on the day of her shot; she would come home and take pain medication and lay down. The pain would eventually wear off but her arm was still not very useful; the shots just kept her from being in too much pain on her daily routine. She finally went in for an MRI and discovered a benign growth that was pushing on a nerve and she elected to have it removed. She has regained full function of her arm without any ill effects

a mate of mine had it done and said its worth having it done
