Sharp pain in lower right part of my abdomen... what could it be?!

Question: I am in the midst of recovering from a stomach flu that lasted two days and was absolutely horrible. I know it was a bug, because I know at least 5 people who caught it the same day I did. I was dehydrated for a while, but I am now feeling much better. I ate for the first time today, but am now having these awful pains in my lower right ab area. Do you think it is related to the stomach flu, or could it be something serious like my appendix?

You say that you are recovering from the stomach flu? You had diarrhea?Well during diarrhea your intestines do not have the normal peristalsis (movement) that it would normally have if you were not sick, just as if you are constipated it would slow down, with diarrhea it is hyper motile. So if you are just getting back to your stomach being normal it could be pains from the food now going through correctly. In nursing school we learned that "rebound pain" is felt if it is appendix, meaning if you push in on the area and it hurts like you know what WHEN YOU LET GO then there is a greater possibilty of appendicitis. Also with appendicitis you will have or start to have fever. If it hurts when you push in it may be due to the dehydration, diarrhea and just the increased motility of your intestines while you were sick and your body was trying to get it all out of you.If it con't for more than a few days or you have the rebound pain you need to go to doc ASAP. Hope this helps.

It could be your appendix. Sounds like a trip to the doctor is in order.

*it could also be a number of things less serious, but you need to have appendix ruled out.

i would have your doctor check it out,if you have a fever and youre either cnstpated or the opposite it sounds like appendicitis, touch the area where it hurts push in gently, ten let it go,if you felt any pain during release then its your appendix, see the doctor.

Are you ovulating?

While a stomach flu may give you symptoms you have mentioned, I suspect that you may have an appendix that has ruptured or is about to . When this is about to occur, you will first feel better as you did before coming down with excruciating pain in your lower right side(or Mcburns point), rebound pain, fever , vomitting, etc. You need to see a doctor pronto; a simple rectal exam will confirm the diagnosis, a simple surgical operation and in a day you will be back home. But hurry for the stakes become higher if it ruptures---infection and so on and a longer hospital stay. Hence, go see your doctor like yesterday. I wish you a speedy and safe treatment and recovery.
