Ear problem?!

Question: I have got a terrible flu rite now and my ear are complete blocked however ever time i sneeze or blow my nose my right ear clears up but wen ever i tilt my head to the rite side or downwards i can feel air pressure. I cant work it out whether the air is flowing out of my ear but i do feel air in my ear

Is this normal or not. My left ear used to feel stuffed up and blocked before the flu and the air thing use to happen b4 too ( sometimes) but with the flu it happens often

Im scared!!! So does this mean i have ruptured ear drum or some infection or anything too serious

Don't stress. Anytime you are sick you can get a buildup of fluid behind your eardrum. This causes to feel like you can't hear as well, you are plugged up etc. There is a tube that goes from the back of your throat to the area behind the eardrum and when you are sick the pressure causes the tube to remain closed when it is supposed to open and close freely. That is why you may feel your ears pop or have the sensation of air. If your eardrum ruptured you probably would have seen some blood come out of your ear canal, on your pillow or something. Once your flu gets better your ears will probably continue to be blocked for a few days. Any longer than that and you will need to see a doctor for antibiotics.
