Does anyone take Ultram/Tramadol for fibromyalgia pain? Do you take Lexapro also!

Question: I was just notified by my pharmacy that ultram and lexapro can interact negatively. They will not refill the Lexapro. I will gladly return the ultram and take the lexapro. The lexapro has helped my quality of lfe tremendously. I have been on these meds at least 3 yrs. The ultram is such a light weight pain killer it seems to do very little good. Tylenol Arthritis is almost as good.
I have an appointment later in the month and may consider taking lyrica.

Have you been looking in my purse? Those are the only medicine bottles I have in there! You are right about the Tramadol/Ultram. My doctor gave it to me so the the insurance company would approve a stronger drug because that one didn't work well. The games we have to play for medical insurance. Anyway, i have been taking Lexapro for at least two years. I have no side effects with it and I feel pretty good and happy.

Many people take both meds. Ask your doctor to get involved -- it's not up to the pharmacy to decide what you can and can't take. You might also want to visit a wonderfully supportive fibromyalgia board:

You have probably became somewhat immune to the Ultram. I do take it and I cannot take Lexapro, and will not take the new Lyrica. There are to many side effects possible with are more likely if you are on other meds for other conditions. I did find with the Ultram that after I took it for awhile it seemed to take longer for it to work, the doctor said because I am taking medication for GERD, (acid reflux), it can prevent the Ultram from working as well. When I take it I must eat something small a piece of toast at least. This is so the stomach will put out digestive fluids and make the medication dissolve faster and get into the system. Many stomach medications turn off the acids in your stomach, and even over the counter meds can interfere with the absorption of Ultram. Hope this helps.

I have taken Ultram for years but when I went on Effexor or maybe it was thyroid med not sure, but I was told that I can not take Ultram anymore, it had stopped working for me after 7 years anyway so I am going to try the Lyrica. The Ultram just really took the edge off anyway. So let me know how it goes with you and I will do the same. I have read that you have to take it for 3 months before the side effects of dizziness and sleepiness go away. BUT I just heard about this other thing and I am going to ask a question and hopefully Fredd will answer it for us Fibros. xoxo PS: S.C. Did you ask them what the interact negative is or are??????

I am taking tramadol for fibromyalgia but no Lexapro. I am also taking Lyrica. I urge you to be very careful if you are going to take Lyrica. I was put on a small dose (50 mg twice a day) and did fine with it but the was switched to 75mg three times a day and had nothing but problems with that dose. (The worst being that my eyes would get very dry and swell almost shut)
My dr lowered the dose back to 50 mg twice a day and although I don't get a lot of pain relief from it, it does take the edge off the nerve pain that I have constantly.
I also know someone who takes 300mg of Lyrica a day and if she misses a dose she gets burning pain through out her entire body. Just make sure that your doctor monitors you very closely if you are going to take it.
I hope you find something that works and you have more pain free days then not...good luck :)
