make sure your room is not too hot not too cold
avoid catnaps during the day
avoid coffee tea as these things have caffeine
make sure your bed is comfortable
a saggy mattress will cause bad aches and muscle aches.
make sure the room is dark when you are sleeping
as well as have soft music
prior to going to bed
do some gentle exercises
not too hard or too many
you want to relax
have a warm bath or shower
when in bed
you can watch television
or read

read something boring
Be more active during the day
Try to read a book or drink something warm, like decaffinated tea. :]

drink milk
it has sedatives in it
and if your mom ever did anything to you when you where you to make you sleep try repeating it, it's supposed to make you sleepy like you were used to.
Listen to really drone-like music, or you can watch TV, but just something really boring. Or, read a book, and eventually you'll fall asleep. If these don't work, then you should take sleeping pills.
If it was just last night, give it another try, Im sure it will be fine, but if it has been for a long period of time now, not good, see your doctor as soon as possible.
You could try drinking green tea(decafinated of course) or hot cocoa, the warmth should make you sleepy. TV is shown to stimulate your brain though so it could keep you up. Soothing music?
bore yourself to death and drink a little. hahaha! or take melatonin, or warm milk. that usually helps
latest research says best thing to do is try to stay awake,keep your eyes open..youll be asleep in no time..true
i have same problem , a doctor gave me a program b4 go to bed , it worked but for about a mnth .
Take a warm bath and sprinkle lavender in the water; no sooner than 2 hours before bedtime
