What can, or should, I do?!

Question: I'm having a pancreas attack. I have had one before and it put me in the hospital for 3 days. All they did was give me pain meds and put me on a liquid diet. What should I do? The pain is not as bad as last time, and I already have morphine for back pain. Is there a nurse out there that can give me advice please? Thanks in advance. Rick

Hello Rick,

I am a nurse so hope I can be useful. The best thing you can do is stick with liquids. No alcohol. If you are able to eat make sure you have no fatty foods. I know this may sound silly but morphine can cause spasm in the sphincter of oddi which controlls the secretions from the liver, pancreas and gall bladder into the bowel and can actually increase the pain. To be honest I think you should see your GP for alternative analgesia(painkillers) Hope you are feeling better soon. Mel.
