If it continues to bleed you will need to have it seen by a Dr. You may need stitches or at least a butterfly bandage. If you have not had a tetnus shot in the last 10 years you need one.

Wash it with warm soapy water or hydrogen peroxide diluted with some water. Wrap it and keep pressure on it for a few minutes every so often to help with the bleeding. You may want to put an antibiotic ointment on it such as Polysporin or Neosporin. The other person is correct about tetanus shot, you need a booster with a cut like that if it has been a long time since you had one.

My husband just got a bad hand cut 3 weeks ago at work on glass. He did go to E.R. and they stitched it. The only thing that really hurt was the shot itself which lasts a minute or two. After that he did not feel a thing. And when it wore off, the cut was tender for a couple of days but nothing to really complain about. So keep an eye on the cut, if it isnt healing properly, continues to bleed or is too painful, you may want to have it looked at. My only concern about not having the stitches is the scar it might leave. Best of luck.

You probably need a pressure bandage to get the bleeding totally under control. Plus, since you cut yourself on steel - which is a metal - you might want to have a doctor look at it if the bleeding doesn't stop or if it's a particularly deep cut. If there's any sign of infection your doctor might want to give you a tetnus booster just in case.

If you hadn't have a tetanus shot yet in the last 10 years then you are going to need one then. It hurts!!! Go to the doctors and they will give you it. If you had one in the last 10 years then you only need to go the doctors and they will fix you up. But if you had one then you don't need one.
