Need pain meds all the time, but don't want to be addicted anymore...?!

Question: I have severe lupus, and it's caused a lot of things to malfunction. I have pain every day, and it gets very bad. I have been taking Hydrocodone 10/650 for about 4 years now, and it's to the point where I have to take 4 of them to feel any relief, and it's not even that much relief. I know I am addicted mentally and physically. I haven't taken one in 2 days, and I feel like I'm going to die. I'm sweating, shaking, have chills, tummy problems, and my heart is pounding out of my chest. I don't want to be so dependant on the Hydrocodone, but regular OTC stuff doesn't touch my pain. I cannot take any form of Naproxen, Aleve, Advil, or Motrin because they make my stomach bleed. I'm limited on what I can take, but I need something that works!!! Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't stop taking the hydrocodone with consulting with your doctor. Being addicted to pain medication is just one of the effects of needing them. It doesn't make you a bad person it just means that without pain medication you will feel discomfort and ill. A diabetic has to take insulin or they sick it's really not any different.

Don't let yourself become 'dope sick'. It is hell and it takes weeks not months to get over. It's really not a very smart thing to do by stop taking medication without your doctors orders

Maybe suggest to your doctor something like Oxycontin 20mg. 12 hour release.

Look into going to a pain management program.

I take
10/500 hydrocodone
20 mil. Oxycontin
30 Morphine sulphate

for a cervical spine injury and have been for about 10 years.

I never take more than the recommended dose and if the medications aren't working well I call my doctor.

I have been taking 4 - 10/500 loratabs for over 6 years and never have felt I needed to take more for relief. There is always going to be some pain. The medication doesn't make you pain free it just helps you be able to function with the pain.

Watch out how much Tylenol, which is the 625mg. in your medication. Do not exceed 3,000 mg. per day

Good luck, I hope you feel better

Have you ever heard of MonaVie? Try it. It's a natural health drink that many people swear by. It's worth a try to see if it will help ease your pain instead of the medication ... and it will probably help with the lupus symptoms also. Do some research on the net. If you want to place an order online, go to this website (www.mymonavie.com/frobinson). I hope this helps! Best of Luck to you!

u need to see a pain management dr... their job is based upon chronic condidtions and tryin to keep ppl off narcotics. ask ur insurance company or pcp for these specialists in your area. good luck.

I have heard of drugs to relieve the symptoms of with drawl. They themselves are not addicting when distributed by a knowledgeable physician. Cold turkey can be very dangerous and you could have a seizure.

Don't suffer anymore when you're trying to do something good for yourself. Look it up on the Internet and call a doctor. I have been there!

You may want to ask you doctor for a Duragesic Patch a.k.a. Fentenyl Patch. This is an extended release pain patch. It is changed out every 72 hours. It is dispensed in micrograms. I have seen this work on many people. Might want to use this in coordination with oral pain meds. Their are other pain meds your doctor can prescribe you besides Lortab and Vicoden. I would watch my blood pressure. Good Luck!

think about a methodone program

You need to see a pain management doctor. You can be damaging your liver with the acetominephen. Take 1/2 of a pill. It should relieve withdrawal. If you take a half only when you start withdrawal for a couple of days, and then switch to 1/4 pill only after withdrawal has started a little. In not to many days there won't be any withdrawal.
