Did my ear drum burst?!

Question: I had an ear infection, I think it's pretty much gone now, but I can't hear anything. I was in extreme pain the other night that kept coming in waves (1 to 3 minutes in between). It had to be the worse pain I've ever felt in my life. II used some ear drops and those helped to an extent, and the next day i used some hydrogen peroxide and I'm no longer in pain,. I still can't hear and that pain was excruciating.

You need to be seen by a medical professional. It would be impossible to make an accurate diagnosis without examining you and looking in your ear. However, my best guess is if you have not experienced any fluid (it may be a rather dark color, possibly reddish-brown) draining from your ear, most likely (but not always) your eardrum has not ruptured. You may have a build up of wax in your ear, which could affect your hearing. There are wax removal kits you can buy over the counter, but just to be on the safe side, you may want to seek medical treatment for your ear. Keep in mind for the next time you get an ear infection that sometimes over the counter drops and warm baby oil (that some people like to use as a home remedy for earaches) can actually "cloud" or put a film (especially with the baby oil) on the eardrum, making it more difficult to make an accurate diagnosis in the event you need to seek medical treatment. Best of luck to you and your ear!

ouch, sounds painful.. feel better
did you get to see a doctor?

If you used hydrogen peroxide and it aleviated the pain, your ear drum is probably still intact. It sounds like your ear is clogged. Try a few more treatments with the peroxide. If your hearing doesn't come back, definitely see your doctor. The clog may be too far back and too compacted to treat at home.

sounds like a huge wax build up.

we cant really give u a diagnosis on here. u should go to the doctor. or the emergency room.

Don't MESS around with this, go to the ER or doctor. I got an ear infection and had problems for months. I woke up one night with terrible ringing sounds in my ears. I was also taking a pain med and think that might have caused it but the doctor says no.

Anyway the ringing just drove me crazy, I'm still having problems with it. I never had any problems with ears before this infection. These infections can really mess up your hearing so see a doctor.
