Rare finger deformity, worth a look even if you don't have any help.?!

Question: I've had this finger deformity on my index, middle and little finger of my right hand all of my life, as I was born with it. I'm a fluent typist, can still grip things well enough and am left handed so can write legibly - I've gotten used to it.

The normal sort of questions are "Does it hurt?" [no] and "Can you feel the tips?" [yes]. In terms of joints, the index and middle finger only really have two bones, but the index finger tip can bend slightly. The little finger is the closest to normal out of the three. The tip is very small and has a very small nail, but that's about it.

I know I'll never have full dexterity like another human being, but I just wondered if medical science could help me, say, stretch the bones? I'm 17 in a few weeks if that makes a difference. I wanted to get into medicine but I don't know if this will cause problems or not.

I would say you need to find a cosmetic surgeon. a cosmetic surgeon can implant a fake bone just like they do chin implants. or go someone who holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery. they should be familiar with what you want to do.

If you have adapted and can use the hand then there should be nothing about it that prevents you from going into the medical sciences.
As for changing it, see a plastic surgeon.

I don't know if there's anything that can be done. I've known a couple of people in my life with this issue and they lead happy healthy lives.

To be honest I dont know if you can be helped or in any case if it would help you also I do not think it would stop you getting into medicine Good luck

I think that you are just fine My little Brother has 3 fingers that had got cut off in a food processor they were reconstructed right away but will never be the same, and well he can do anything. You are just fine if you want to get into medicine then DO IT and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

That's interesting- I have heard of implants/reconstructive surgery for those types of procedures. I would consult a plastice surgeon- they can definately tell you!

i fail to see anything wrong with your hands. I don't have a web-cam! If I did I'd show you some hand to really complain about..
Don't worry be happy.

I don't think that there is anything that medical science can do. There are many doctors with that have acrondraplasia or dwarfisim. You should go into the medical field your deformity is not that sever.
