Painful Adult Ear Infection Accompanied by Viral Infection. Relief?! Tylenol, Su!

Question: I've had a bad cold since Christmas day (which was just about the worst present ever). My 15 month old son and husband had it too but they are both over it now with just a bit of nasal congestion left.

Suddenly yesterday morning, I got the chills and had a fever. My whoIe body ached. I woke up this morning with a horrible sharp pain in my left ear. It soon started to throb and spread to my entire head. I can't hear out of it.

So I went to my doctor and he gave me an antibiotic for the virus and nasonex nose spray for my ear. I understand the connection between my throat, nose and ear and how it is supposed to help. I also know that I am not to expect the pain to just suddenly go away as soon as I have used it.

My real question is, how do I relieve this horrible pain in my ear until this stuff works?

I am taking Sudafed: Severe Cold which helps with the nasal and the body/head aches but it is doing nothing for my ear. Can I take tylenol as well? Or what will help the pain?!

Tylenol

sorry need points

try midol. and go to the doctor

if you have an ear infection you need to see a doctor for an antiobitic as that's the only way to clear it up. no over the counter medication can clear an ear infection up. tylenol will help reduce the pain but it won't clear up the infection in your system.

first, if your doctor said it was viral, he should not have given you the antibiotics.........This is the reason why the whole country is being immuned to antibiotics! causing MRSA and VRA's! the sudafed doesnt cure the cold rather its just for temporary relief of symptoms, the virus will go away on its own, you may continue taking sudafed and take advil or tylenol for the ear pain. Try Motrin if the Tylenol isnt working. You might have an ear infection, if this is the case then the antibiotics should kick in. If its viral, the antibiotics wont work.
