Although it is oft repeated in the media that you should drink eight glasses of water a day there is actually no research or empirical evidence to support this. The best way to tell if you are adequately hydrated is to look at your urine. (You need to look at it before it's diluted in the toilet water. Problematic for females, I know...) First you should be urinating several times a day. Second, the urine should be colorless (very well hydrated) or light yellow (adequately hydrated). The more yellow in color your urine is the less hydrated you are (Vitamin C and other supplements can make urine appear more yellow.) Other signs of dehydration are fatigue, headache, and in moderate to severe cases, dry mucous membranes (inside nose and mouth) and poor skin turgor (pinch the skin of your forearm and release. It should snap back immediately. If it 'tents' you are probably very dehydrated.)

Water is the most important form of nutrition required by your body. Recommendation is that you drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Water helps clear toxins from your body and keeps you in a normal state.

If you have lost the desire for water by ignoring thirst, you must try to recover it. Do not force water on yourself, but keep it near at hand and take a few swallows at frequent intervals. If you will give this hint attention, you will gradually acquire a normal thirst. It is a good idea to cultivate the plan of drinking a glass of water on rising and one or two on retiring at night.

It's really important to drink water a friend recently had a heart attack and she was advised to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to maintain a healthy blood flow around the body to the heart. Are you on some kind of death wish , if so why bother exercising?
