Lower back pain... I dont know why?!

Question: This might sound wierd, but for the past few months I have started having lower back pain on the left side of my spine just above where I wear my pants (Which is under my belly button) It used to only hurt a lot when I laid flat, but now at work when I stand It starts to hurt, also after I have been standing for about 5 hours and sit down for about 20+ minutes when I get up to walk my back hurts every step I take with my left leg.... If I lay on flat on my back and raise my knee up towards the roof it doesnt hurt as bad... Any ideas? I have some good soft insoles in my shoes and I get messages regularly because of my other back trouble... any advice would be great

Thanks!

Might be your mattress. When you sleep on a surface that doesn't support you and forces you to lay flatit flattens your spine.your spine is naturally curved around what most people would describe as your lower back. When your spine flattens it stretches your spine and keeps your lower back muscles tense which causes straining and pain when you wake up.

go see a doctor, and if its away from your spine then its probably a muscle. uh anyway see a doctor. they'd have the best advice ;P

It sounds like sciatica - does the pain sometimes go down into you bum or the back of your leg?. There are some great stretching exercises that helped me - google sciatica and check them out. They involve opposite stretches and they feel great.

maybe its scitica.. mayb something else.. go to a doc, prolly doc and get atleast 2 opinions

I have a pain that sounds similar to yours but it's in my 'back dimple' and it started after I was in a car accident. The disc between my L5 and S1 is squashed flat and I vaguely remember having a pinched nerve (I could be wrong, I was on pain killers when I was poked and proded). I suggest going to a reputable chiropractor.

Pain from an infected kidney or severe fluctuating pain from a kidney stone passing down one of the two ureters can begin in the outer part of the back above the waist.

It sounds a bit like Iliac type pain which is what I have been asking about over the past few days. Do you have any clicking or snapping? last night I found a web site which was quite interesting, it may or may not be suited but feel free to have a look.
