Rib hurts on left side?!
Question: I have a dull throbbing pain on my left side right at the bottom of my ribs. It's been on and off for a couple of weeks and I feel it more at night. I haven't done anything unusual lately and no one punched me in the stomach. Any guesses?

You could have impacted your left side against some solid object without realizing it. The floating ribs are very susceptible to physical injury. A dull throbbing pain may indicate a cracked rib. First, check for bruising at the pain site. Second, touch the pain site with your finger. If the pain increases when you touch it, and decreases when you release your finger, then you have a physical injury most likely due to blunt force trauma. Does it hurt more when you lay down on the left side than on the right?
If what I have described so far doesn't apply to you, you will need to see a doctor. It could indicate something more serious such as cancer.

Gastritis is what comes to mind . Do you smoke a lot , drink alcohol , tea or coffee in excess ? Do you eat too much spicy food ? Are you under stress ?
Maybe you should consider an endoscope examination of the lining of the stomach .
I had that happen.
After a while, I did find out what it was.....
KIDNEY STONES!!
And let me tell you, they hurt like hell when they get bad.

I have kidney stones and they are a ***** but i have never had pain in rib area tho- BUT i also found out i have this problem called Costochondritis.......and it does give me pain where u describe,look it up there are more symptoms and info,,,,,but in MY exp. one sure way to know if it is costo. is the pain is brought on after doing something ect- even something simple! I can't life a full gallon of milk.
