How do you give an IM Injection of Vitamin B-12?!

Question: I have just been given a diagnosis of Pernicious Anemia. My doctor has prescribed me Vitamin B-12 shots. These have to go intra-muscular. Since I have given myself Insulin injections for years, he has me doing these at home. The problem is, that he prescribed 1/2 inch needles. I have no real fear of needles, but I have always given myself Sub-Q injections, not IM. So, my questions are as follows:

Is this long enough?
Is there any chance that I will end up hitting my arm bone?
What is the proper size needle to inject this Vitamin B-12?

Thank you for your help on this.

The needle is fine. Just stick it in your arm and shoot. There will be no hitting of the bone.To make it all better I always get a scooby doo bandaid. I would use methacabalmin b-12. Then you only have to do one shot once or twice a month. I would take a liquid iron that you buy at a Health Food Store. Oh and Mikey.... eat right and get exercise.

The needles prescribed are the ones to use. All you need to do is find the muscle in your arm and push in the needle and inject. It will feel weird the first couple of times, but it is fine. You can also put it in your thigh, if you are uncomfotable with it going in your arm. Good luck

You will need to check with the doctor, but all I would do is to make a flesh bulge, as you do for your insulin.

If you doctor has prescribed needles, trust him. They maybe a little bigger in diameter, depending on the size of the dose.

Once he has shown you with the first one you will just need to continue.

Pen injections would be good, but syringes are fine, just put them in at a shallower angle instead of vertically.
