Shoulder pain? What should I do?!

Question: So, yesterday I hurt my shoulder/rib cage carrying a really heavy clothes hamper down the steep stairs of my basement. It hurts when I breathe in or cough and I can hardly move without pain. The pain is, on a scale of 1-10, about a 4 while still and an 8 when I move. The thing is that I really don't want to go to the doctor....I go there at least once a month and I feel like I go in to often. What do you think?

If it really hurts level 8 when you move, don't worry about your reputation with the doctor. Just go in and take care of your body. Do you know a gentle chiropractor? I have found mine both gentle and helpful with anything involving my spine/ muscles. It may be as simple as a sprained muscle - it may be something more difficult.

Take care of your body. If your doctor treats you unenthusiastically because you have to come in fairly often, then you need a new doctor.

If you feel you are going too often you may need to look at your life and emotional health and see if something non-physical is contributing to your health problems. Later! After you get your ribs fixed, OK?

rest the shoulder and if it continues to hurt try yoga or consult with ur doctor

I think you should read and apply this information http://www.helium.com/tm/148271

If you do I know the problem can be fixed with out going to a doctor.

The treatment of soft tissue neck and shoulder pain includes the use of anti-inflammatory medication (such as Aleve or Motrin) and/or acetaminophen (Tylenol). Pain also may be treated with a local application of moist heat or ice. Local corticosteroid injection is often helpful for arthritis of the shoulder. For both neck and shoulder pain movement exercises may help. For cases in which nerve roots or the spinal cord are involved, surgical procedures may be necessary.

Hope this helps! :)

Sounds very much like a trip to the doctor is in order for x-rays. Don't mess around. Pain is the way your body tells you something is wrong, something is messed up. If you don't want permanent damage and pain to deal with the rest of your life, visit your doc.

try a heating pad... those work like really well
