Is this legal?!

Question: i called a urologist i've been seeing due to a bladder biopsy, kidney infection and cystitis to see if he would refill my pain meds. during this time i've also had to have a root canal repaired by an oral surgeon and was given a few pain pills due to that. when i visited each doctor, i told them about both my problems and that i was seeing 2 docs for 2 different reasons. i mentioned to the urologist about how bad the molar pain was and how i had to have anesthetic put in one day prior. i told the oral surgeon that i was having a biopsy done the next day. they knew about each other. anyhow, i called the urologist because i needed a refill and he said no, so i thought i would call the dentist, and while i waited for a call back, i called the urologist again and he went ahead and prescribed it but said that he had asked at the pharmacy about my records and he asked who the dentist was and said that i had an "alert" on my file saying that i was a drug-seeker! i called the pharmacy

It certainly is legal. Your doctors are not about to risk their licenses on any suspicious behavior and they are obligated to pass any suspicions on to the pharmacist. Whether you needed the pain meds or not..and I'm not saying you didn't...the doctor needs to cover himself. You were open about getting pain meds (Maybe too open, and that sent red flags up to him) and he likely felt he prescribed you enough and that's why no refills were allotted when you first filled it, and he's concerned.

Next time you get a paper script, look at the numbers on top. One is from the DEA.

I dont know ..but i do believe you should find out who put that on your file ..and then contact a lawyer to find out if it is legal..if you had legitimate reasons to have pain meds ..and a doc did that to you i would think you have reason to fight back

if you have 2 different rx's for 2 different meds, yes you can be flagged. Most high pain killers can only be filled once every 30 days. just because you told them about each other doesn't mean they cannot deny you a refill. The pharmacy has nothing to do with your Dr. They have laws they have to follow.
