Can I make my crutches taller?!

Question: I had acl reconstruction surgery and I'm going back tp school tomorow(I'm14) I'm supposed to have them at 5'8 but I hate bending over so I want to put them at 5'10. I don't have to bend at all if I do that. I still have to bend at 5'9. would it be okay to leave them at 5'10 or should I put them back at 5'8. crutches are so uncomftorable.

Roughly, for a good "fit', you should be able to insert three fingers between the armpit and the top of the crutch. This is to make sure you don't rest your armpit on the top of the crutch or you'll wind up with crutch palsy.

If you are doing a lot of walking I would leave them at 5'8", but if you will just be standing around or not really walking far, then you can put them up. I do that as well. Also wearing shoes makes a difference as opposed to just being in socks or bare feet. They make you taller and you may have to adjust the crutches. I feel your pain. I have been on them for about 9 months out of the past 16 months. It sucks.

yes they r unconfortable! i used to want them when i was younger but then i broke my leg 3 years ago in seventh grade in gym class and they were not fun! u can adjust them i dont know what type u have - but if theyre the metal lookin ones - theyre should b a lil dot thing sticking out at one part in a whole - its really confusin to type sorry =) - and if u squeeze it together than u can move it to a different whole =)

Make sure that your crutches are not too high. I would adjust them to a height where they are about 2-3 inches below your armpit when you are standing up straight and are relaxed. Use this website to help you size your crutches so that you can be comfortable http://www.footphysicians.com/footanklei...
