Numbness, tingling and pain in hand?!

Question: This has happened off and on for a couple of years now, where I would get tingling in my hand after writting or something like that....but now for the last month or 2 it has been really bad. I will get tingling and nubness and then it will be out and out pain. This happens with every thing I do, from griping the sterring wheel, writting, typing, holding utensils to eat. It ocassionaly wakes me up at night, and my hand feels painful and stiff. This morning, I couldn't even grip the shower nob to turn it on, my hand literally would not close around it, and it was painful.
Any ideas what could be causing this? By the way, it only happens in my right hand, and makes things even more difficult because I am right handed.

This is "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome". It is cause by the bones in the hands, wrists and/or lower arms are compressing the nerves. It usually starts as numbness and tingling and may progress to pain and difficulty using one or both hands. An Orthopedic Hand Surgeon or a Neurosurgeon can perform nerve conduction testing to verify this diagnosis. This is a simple, painless, non-invasive test done to check nerve impulses in the lower arm and hand. If the tests are positive for CTS, there is a procedure that can be done to release the pressure against the nerves. I know all of this because I have had it done. It's worth it by far. There is a quick little thing you can do yourself. Grasp your shower knob, but don't hang on...remember that hand position. Find something to tap the heel of your hand with, like a butter knife handle (if it's not real heavy). OK, with your hand in the grasp position, only up and relaxed...tap the groove in the heel of your hand! Bet you felt a zip go up your hand that would light up your whole kitchen, yes? You just performed a self nerve conduction test...of sorts. Next step is to get to the doctor and have it taken care of so it doesn't get any worse,OK? May God watch and keep you.

Sounds exactly like me.. I'm an artist, so I use my hands constantly.. I use the computer frequently, also, so even without a doctor telling me so, I must have carpel tunnel. You might too. It's common nowadays, they have braces and supplements to help with that.
