Does anyone know of any home remedies for TMJ?!

Question: I'm talking mostly for the mobility of the jaw, as well as pain decreasers. OTC meds don't seem to work for me anymore.

I had it and there were no home remedies that worked for me. The only thing that helped was inter-oral massage therapy. You have to see a certified massage therapist who will work your head, face, neck and shoulders. They'll put on a rubber glove, dip it in diluted mouthwash and work your jaw from the inside and outside. It hurts like hell, but it works quickly. I went from barely being able to fit a spoonful of soft food in my mouth to eating a steak in a week.

It sounds bizzare but it really worked.

My TMJ was a result of dental work, but if you're a tooth grinder it may be a different story.

try ice for the pain, then heat to relax the muscles. hope this works.

My dentist told me that it's often stress-related. I was very surprised, and didn't really believe it. However, at the time I was in college in a very difficult program...and was under a lot of stress.

These days I'm at a much less stressful place in my life, and the TMJ symptoms have gone away.

Talk to an oral surgeon. It's possible you may require surgery.

You should try a routine massage to the jaw two time per day for two weeks. If taking with meds that should help some.

You might also try getting a face massage. Let the massage therapist no that you have TMJ and he/she will focus on that area.

Hope this helps...O yeah don't chew gum regularly!

I found that my jaw pain went away completely after I started opening my mouth as far as I could for as long as I could. I could hardly open my mouth at the beginning and my husband laughed everytime he saw me stretching my mouth but it really worked. It sounds insane but I really think you should try this because it requires no money, no medicine and works relatively quickly.
