My jaw cracks when I open it really wide. Is this normal?!

Question: It may be TMJ, see your dentist. I have it... they made me a mouthpiece to wear when I sleep (thanks for reminding me lol)

Its not bad, but you want to slow down the process because chances are it can get worse.

See your DMD :)

Probably TMJ... see your dentist.

TMJ, short for Tempromandibular Joint Disorder, is a potentially serious dental problem. If not treated early and properly, it can become a painful and chronic jaw problem. TMJ symptoms include pain in the jaw, face, muscles of the head and neck, and/or teeth. TMJ may be associated with teeth clenching or teeth grinding. TMJ Symptoms may start slowly over time, or they may appear rapidly due to recent dental treatment or accident trauma. TMJ Treatment consists of one or more of the following actions: medication, oral exercise, night guard therapy, occulsal adjustment, teeth and mouth rehabilitations, and oral surgery. Finding the proper diagnosis and getting the proper treatment is important in order to combat this painful and complex dental syndrome.

sounds like TMJ

If pain is associated with this, you may have TMJ, seek the advice of a dentist.

It happens to me sometimes, so yeah, I think so.

No, get it checked out

Stop opening it wide.

mine has done that before too, not all the time but once in a while, usually I just stop opening my mouth after it cracks a few times and keep it closed for a long time and then later on it goes away, it mite nto always work tho but i kno its happens to alot of ppl because most ppls bones randomly crack and apparently its bad for ur jaw so if its cracking try not to open it becuz it could rip or tear or dislocate ur jaw.

If it only happens sometimes like rarely well it's ok, but if it always happens you need to see a dentist.

ha mine does too.
im so weird.

No this is not normal..You need to be careful you could start getting lock jaw. I have the same thing but my jaw never cracked. So if it starts to hurt or anything you may want to go see a doctor

Yep, I agree with everyone else - temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Your dentist might be able to help, or refer you to a maxillo-oral surgeon if it is really bothering you.

Another therapy recently being used with some success is Botox injections into the muscles that move the joint. It helps for about 4 months at a time.

Probably no big deal. Be a little careful though. I have heard of people dislocating their jaws this way.

if it just kind of happened out of nowhere you might have yawned too big..that happens to me every once in a while and also when my mullers are growing out

that would happen to me until I got braces. haven't had braces for almost 10yrs and it rarely happens now maybe once every few months, it would feel like my jaw was unhinging! but it never hurt!
