I badly strained/over worked a muscle in my back what can I do?!

Question: I'm a 16 year old Cheerleading base and my back has been bugging me for awhile but nothing too bad; except for the occasional shot of pain every now and then while doing a stunt. But today at practice we were working on our dance for competition and my back started to realllllllyy hurt! So much that I had to stop doing the dance and count for everyone instead. After about an hour I could do most of the moves except the ones were we had to bend over. I love building and really wanted to, since I'm one of the lead bases, and convinced my coach that I was fine. The stunts went up well...but every time I cradled my back hurt like crazy. Now I feel like and old man, it hurts to move and when I bend over I have a really hard time getting up. When I feel the source of pain it feels like a round bone but I'm sure it's a muscle. What can I do to get better and stop the pain?

Until you can get to a doctor, you need to ice your back for 20 minutes. Every two hours. Make sure there is a towel between you and the ice. Take two 200 mg of some kind of NSAID. This would be ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin etc.). then in 4 hours take two 325mg Tylenol. Alternate every 4 hours. You can not overdose on these small amounts. The NSAID will take away the inflammation, which causes pain, and the Tylenol will take away the pain. Do not lift, push, pull anything over 5lbs. Just take it easy. You need to see a doctor ASAP to make sure you did not slip a disc. And I hope you have told your parents. If not, do so immediately.

okay lean into the wall back flat to the wall and go down like a chair, then slowly move back up the wall. do this for a few mins then lay flat on the floor and bring your leg up in the air do this for about ten mins per leg and then relax in a warm shower or bath slowly going forward rolling your back. you can also search the web or go to webmd.com to find more ways to relieve the pain.

Try alternating between heat and ice in 15 minute
increments.

You need to have a doctor check your back, it may be a pulled muscle or pinched nerve, but it is possibly more serious. Don't take anymore chances, get it checked out professionally.
