Severe hypocalcemia? Should I go to the ER or...?!

Question: I know. I know. It's my fault. I haven't been eating right. I don't take supplements. I've been sluggish lately and we just moved out of a house full of lead contaminants (which would worsen my calcium deficiency). I figured I was alright but something is really wrong now.

I have chills but no fever. My teeth yesterday felt smooth when I ran my tongue across them, and now they seem porous and are very rough. My teeth are starting to hurt along the gum line. My right lower eye-lid keeps twitching and the tip of my nose yesterday was numb off and on. My vision is blurry. I don't feel sick like I have a cold or flu but it feels like my brain isn't synapsing right or something. I know it's a calcium deficiency but should I go to the ER or should I just buy some flintstones vitamins and calcium supplements and try to fix it myself? I don't have time to see a physician.

I'd highly recommend you go to the ER. Hypocalcemia causes cramps and muscle twitches. Your airway could be obstructed from laryngospasm with stridor. Convulsions can occur along with numbing of lips and extremities. Abnormal heart rhythms can occur also. Go to the ER to have your calcium level checked; if it's severely low, they will administer calcium gluconate intravenously and monitor you closely.

I would go to the ER, that's the best choice. Just to be on the safe side.

I WOULD SO TOTALLY GO

You might want to find time to go see your doctor, or go to the emergency room
It could worsen if you don't
They will probably prescribe a certain kind of vitamin

If I was your primary doctor I would say go to the ER and get some blood work. How do you know it is calcium? Are you sure that if you ate calcium your body would absorb it? Do you also have a Vitamin D deficiency?

ER right NOW!!! It may be true that you are hypocalcemic, which is dangerous in itself, but you may also be suffering from lead poisoning. Get yourself to the ER. Good Luck

If you "don't have time to see a Doctor"...don't worry...you will have all the time in the world when they put you in that coffin. MAKE TIME!

It doesnt seem too bad to be honest, when I get it i know when its severe when I cannot move my muscles properly. you should get it seen to if it worsens, but try your vitamins for 2 days at least and see if it gets better. On the other hand you did just come from a contaminated house, so this could be something more serious. Because of that I say you book an appointment within those two days.

Sorry, but your problem does not appear to be physical. Try explaining your symptoms (and other problems you might have) to a psychologist. (Take the time, it's worth it). If you have physical problems or psychical problems causing the discomfort he/she can root out the cause.. good luck

ok first off its calcium loss but don't drink milk its 98 percent puss so eat some fruit and veggies and nuts and leafy veggies. If you don't feel better after go to the hospital just in case i hope you are ok wish i could be of more help

I would try the vitamins...but dont get flinstones plus calcium..there is such thing as a calcium o/d. I would recommend one a day womens. It is the only vitamin out there that has been updated in the past twenty years just for women. Also you can drink more milk and OJ for some more vitamins:).

Get yourself to a walk in clinic, er, doctors office now. You need to go somewhere that has laboratory access. If you dont make time now you will have no choice when someone finds you collapsed or dead.

Electrolyte imbalances can kill you. I was within 6 hours of dying with an imbalance.
