What is my doctor looking for?!

Question: I just had gallbladder surgery about 3 weeks ago and I am still experiencing nausea and acidic stomach. I just dry heaved the other night. My doctor wants me to come in and check my blood cells and blood count as well as do bloodwork to check my liver. What is he searching for? Someone with medical knowledge please answer for me. A bit nervous about what he is searching for.
I will ask him when I go in tomorrow but forgot to ask on the phone today and his office is now closed.

A CBC can tell a doctor a lot. It checks for white cells, red cells, platelet count, hemoglobin, hematocrit and many others.

It's a commonly ordered test. What he is probably looking for is a sign of infection and/or a possible blockage (this can happen with abdominal surgery).

Instead of getting yourself more and more anxious, have the testing done and see what the doctor tells you. If your nausea becomes worse or if your pain level increases, I would advise you to go to an ER for evaluation.

I hope you feel better.

He'e checking you white blood cell count. They fight infection. He's probably making sure you don't have an infection. If the count is high then you have one and he will give you antibiotics.

searching for anything and everything. Blood counts tell all.

He is looking to make sure there was no blockage by a stone or sludge in the bile duct. This would cause liver complications. Have the lab work done. You need your liver.
