Stop smoking?!

Question: I want to quit so bad. i am going to do the patch and i know physically that will help, but the problem i have is how to deal with the mental part. Smokers out there know that when we wake up the first thing we want to have is a cig and frankly i think i have cigs when i am not craving them, but simply because its "time" to have one. like i say ok.i did the dishes..time for a cig and so forth. My question is how do i get over the mental part with out going crazy? thanks

You Can Do It!!!!!!!!!!
I smoked for 25 years and last year around thanksgiving i was convicted to give up smoking for good no questions asked.its a long story but to make it short and helpful hopefully . I prayed for the Lord to help me and a pa that i go to church with came up to me morning at church and asked me how had i been doing trying to quit. when i replyed he asked to come see him he had some thing that might take the edge off. CHANTIX it is a stop smoking aid that really really works great. within in ten day i went from 2.5 packs a day to none. it took the edge off and was no problem. That being said remember as i always say PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!!.

yes stop

ewww smoking stooop

Get a hobby to replace smoking. Call a friend or family member for support. Maybe chewing Gum.

heres a good website that answers tons of questions

pray and pick up an hobby

you need to start thinking you are over them, even though you may not be. if you try hard enough you will start to believe yourself

good job on trying to stop!
i would say to find other hobbies or things you enjoy
and do them when you get depressed or feeling like you need to smoke again

do you smell tacos

have you thought about using anti-depressants? they are currently prescribed to help people quit smoking!

wellbutrin is the best known one

suck on a lolipop or something.
i've heard the sucking... motion? can help.

tell ur self that ur paying a lot of money to kill urself

if u have a trustworthy friend and ur an honest person u cant give them ur credit cards or just lock them up so physically theres no way u can buy them

switch it out with a new, good habit. a daily ritual like brushing your teeth. every time you want a smoke, like first thing in the morning, brush your teeth. take a toothbrush and tooth paste to work. also floss! you'll have a great smile and no smoke smell!

Try to drink water instead whenever you feel like the urge. It will go away after a while. You just have to replace a good habit with a bad one. The key is talking yourself through it.

i smoked for 30 years. tried the patch, gum an neither worked. but... what did work was the commit lozengers. they worked great for me. it will be 2 yrs on jan 7th since i smoked.

Deal with your oral fixation....chew on a straw or a piece of gum. And distract yourself. Read a book, watch tv, clean the house, cook something.....anything!

my dad meditated and got hooked on Jolly Ranchers, so hard candy, meditation, take mental excersises

get the gum when you are feeling to smoke.
you have to try and control you mind.
I hope you can do it... be good for your health and looking smart...

Use the Nicorette Lozenge....I tried the patch, etc and the lozenge is much better. Good luck and drink lots of water. To avoid the triggers..change your routine. It's tough..but after 2 weeks it gets much better.

Go talk to a docter about it but here is my advice.,,

Find something you can have as much as you had cigs. Like gum, when ever it is about "time" chew gum instead and if you get the urge then stop and think... "Do I realy want to kill myself with things this nasty?" Think of the ingredients and you might resent.

try Chantix, the dreams are out of this world and they make cigarettes taste like a dirty ashtrey. I use spagetti for the hand to mouth reaction as well as a toothpick

i smoked for almost thirty years and tried every damn remedy on the market except one, hypnosis.i figured what the hell, ive tried everything else, they didnt work, why not give this a shot.so i ordered the cd's and they sat on my desk for a week after i got them.I finally got around to putting the first one in my cd player, headphones on,lit cigarette in my mouth.90 minutes later, the second cd was over, and so was my smoking habit.that was 19 months ago,and i havent had a smoke since,in fact the pack i was smoing when i listened to the cd's sat on top of my pc case for 5 months until i tossed them out.granted ive had a few cravings for a smoke since, but ive never given back in.It blew my mind that it actually worked,im smoke free and yes,ive turned into someone who can walk in a room and telll who smokes and who doesnt, lol.Try the hypnosis ,it just may work for you.

Chantix(pills by prescription only)....I smoked for 26 years. I have now gone 1 month without a smoke and not too bad on the cravings. Don't buy them then you won't smoke them. Tell everyone you know that you are going to quit. If you don't want them to see you as a failure you will do it. It is working wonders for me...I haven't even been crabby at least no more than normal.

I have not had a cig in several months now and it is Great. Don't go on the patch but TRY Chantix. Chantix stops the nicotine feeling to the brain so even when you have one, you get no sensation or satisfaction. It is working for me. They say to stay on it for three months but my doctor recommended 6 months. I still would like to have a cig but the mental part is starting to go away. The physical part is no big deal, but the mental part is the hard part to quit, but when you are on Chantix you soon don't even want one. Another good thing about Chantix is you just slow down smoking or quit when you want to. It doesn't matter if you smoke while you are on it. I was on it for weeks before I started cutting back. Now I haven't even had one for several months.

GOOD LUCK and try Chantix

I took Chantix..I got great support and it allowed me to smoke for a while. But then they just tasted bed. Of 10 of us at work all of us guit...I did take the program for and added 12 weeks and am now smoke free!!
Look at the site..It is way better then the patch...you may even forget you smoke..that is what happened to me...I just did not smoke.
read about it .

I have never dealt with a nicotine habit. However, I found a GREAT resource with people sharing how they broke their smoking habits. I will simply share an answer I read from the forum. It is posted in the source link. A person named Ree posted the following. The answer is very helpful.

"I quit cold turkey in 1993, using a plan I got from the American Cancer Society called "21 Days to a Fresh Start." Haven't smoked since. Here are a few of the tips I used that helped me:

On a piece of paper you can keep, write down the top three reasons you want to quit smoking. Be Absolutely Honest! This is for your eyes only. Carry this paper with you EVERYWHERE. Look at it often, especially when you are seriously craving a cigarette.

Replace the habit of smoking with another, good habit. I drank lemon water in place of smoking. The process of slicing the lemon and squeezing it into the water took the place of lighting the cigarette. Lemon water is great for you and helps flush the toxins out of your system.

If you don't already have an exercise program in place, get one and use it! I was very worried that I would gain weight when I quit smoking. I began an exercise program for the first time and I still do it today. In fact, I LOST weight at the same time I quit smoking.

After three weeks the physical craving is over. It is purely emotional habit after that.

Know that you can do it. Once you quit, think of yourself as a non-smoker. Don't say, "I'm in the process of quitting," or "I'm trying to quit." Say, "I AM A NON-SMOKER."

GOOD LUCK!"

if u really wanna quit so bad u gotta understand that u have to quit. if u really want to you can do it. after you do the dishes or w.e you do, reward yourself with food or shopping or a nice shower, or a walk. and remind yourself that its never time for a smoke
