I was prescribed oxycodone/apap for a viral throat infection. i feel so zoned ou!

Question: This is a pain medication that contains acetaminophen (apap, brand name Tylenol and others) and a pretty strong narcotic (oxycodone). It's not surprising you are zoned out if you are not used to taking narcotics.
The acetaminophen part can also help to treat fevers if you have any. The narcotic is a very good cough suppressant if you were doing a lot of coughing with this illness, but there are other cough suppressants that work fine that are not this powerful a narcotic.
You must have had a REALLY sore throat to need a big gun pain medication like this one.

narcotic pain reliever with Tylenol

It's the generic name for Percocet. It's a pain reliever. If you have an infection, I hope that your doctor also prescribed anitbiotics.
Percocet is highly addictive, it's considered a narcotic. Use it only if you're in severe pain. Otherwise, stick to over the counter pain pills.

As has been stated in prior answers, the drug you have been given is a narcotic analgesic. A rather strong one for someone not used to taking them. If you feel as you say "zoned out", then you really should consider cutting them in half...the zoned out feeling is an excellent indicator that you are simply taking too much for your body. I'm sure that you know not to do much of anything besides rest, drink as much healthy liquids to keep hydrated and rest some more...Do Nothing of Any Importance while taking this Medication...Hope you're feeling GrEaT Soon...(--_--)

The medication is percocet, it is an opioid medication, usually something with codeine is prescribed to people with a chronic cough. Your throat had to be pretty red or sore for a doctor to prescribe that for it. Usually it is a cough syrup with codeine in it, 2 spoons full at a time. If you have to take it for a long time, you body will adjust to it and over time the side effects will lesson, like with chronic pain patients it is a part of their daily lives, or they'd have no life at all, they need it to function. You are a light weight so maybe call the doctor or pharmacist and ask about cutting the dosage in half, or if you take it with a full meal the absorption rate is slowed down and there will not be as much as an effect on you. Good luck, hope you get well soon, make sure you are getting plenty of fluids while you are sick too, and lots of rest!

Oxycodone is a fast hitting narcotic, a Continent of thebaine. It was first synthesized by the Germans in 1916. This drug is available in Percocet 5, 10 a mixture of oxycodone and up to 325/650mg's of Tylenol. If you ever heard of Oxycontins, this is the active ingredient in percocet, endocet, tylox etc. If the dose is too much, I am sure you can break them in half. The most common generic percocet is a Qualitest 512 that has a line you can break it in half, that way your only getting 2,5 mg's of oxycodone. My suggestion, if you do not like the way they make you feel, discontinue use. Oxycodone is anything but candy, a highly addictive opiate.
