Question: what is an OT an what do they do?

Answers: what is an OT an what do they do?

An OT is an Ocupational Therapist and their role is in rehabilitation and something called 'Activities of Daily Living' (ADL).

As a previous answerer said, OT's are skilled in maximizing ability and teaching people to cope with disablity. Their role is to promote independance as far as possible, working alongside other rehab proffesionals, such as physiotherapists. A very valuable member of the health proffesional team.

OT is Occupational Therapy..They help injured & disabled people learn or re-learn living & job skills.

Occupational Therapist. Occupational applies to employment, home, driving, so if like me you have Rheumatoid Arthritis and as the hands are not physically able to do chores like peel a apple, the OT can either show you how to do the chore differently, or show you a nice gadget that peels apples for you, or show you a bigger handled apple peeler that you can grip. I had Home Assessment, so she came here for a few hours to observe what I do and how I do it, then she will give you better ways of doing the chore, or suggest you get lever taps installed instead of the normal twist sink taps, perhaps upright vacuum cleaner, then the small drag along cylinder, perhaps special three pin plugs with handles on, making life so much easier. Am I typing this or am I using a voice recognition program, so speak typing. I have been measured for normal arm chairs to sit and watch TV, the height of the bed making it easier to get in and out, my car has gadgets to help with the Arthritis and if I was working, office chair, computer key board. I reckon I would be lost without OT. Good Luck
