Has anyone ever had sciatica/sciatic nerve problems?!

Question: Share your experiences with me please. I've finally been put on anti-inflammatory pills for it, but I'm curious what others have been through.

i have/do and it's horrible. once i could barely move, my doctor put me on anti-inflammatory pills (basically 1000mg motrin) and gave me muscle relaxants and pain killers. she told me should the pain bother me further after i finished the medications i would need to go to physical therapy. i haven't been and it only flares up after sitting for a long time or doing heavy lifting. other than heating pads or icing it and taking painkillers there's no way to deal with it. but if you stretch and do excercises to strengthen your core muscles it acts up less frequently.

I haven't. Hope the new medication works, and that you feel better very soon!! :)

Big hugs!!

I have had the pain from my sciatic nerve off and on for years. I also took the anti-inflammatory meds and they did help along with pain medications when it was really bad. This is one of the most painful medical conditions that you can have and I hope that the meds work for you.

My mum slipped a couple of discs in her back, clamping onto her sciatic nerve last year. The pain she went through was ridiculous, i've never seen anything like it, and would never want to in my life.
She said it was the worst pain she's been through in her life, after being through things like child birth and having her entire car run over by a truck, you've got to shudder in the thought of how bad it would have been.

She was admitted to hospital for it, because it got so bad at one point, I'm not sure how bad yours is, but she had to be taken away on a stretcher in an ambulence.
The myriad of painkillers she was on at that point was ridiculous.

So yeah, I can.. kind of sympathise. It wouldn't be a good place to be in for you, or anyone.

Unfortunately yes. If you have not had an MRI scan or x-rays done, get your GP to arrange this for you. You need to know if there is a definite problem than can be treated. The medication can help, but it can irritate the stomach. One of the best things that helped me was/is Yoga - try Hatha as it's quite gentle. Hope yours resolves soon.

I had constant sciatic pain for 6 years.I was finally diagnosed by a neurosurgeon as having a condition called spondylolithesis. It is basically an abnormal curvature of your spine from front to back.I had spinal fusion surgery (L-5 to sacrum) and it stopped the sciatica.Do not give up.Go to however many doctors you have to in order to find out what's wrong...You should not have to suffer like that.Be assertive!! Best of luck. Oh,I forgot to tell you that they had me on every different antiinflammatory you could imagine during the 6 years before my surgery.None of them did any good.
