Question: yesterday in basketball i jammed my finger. i went to the doctor and got xrays, he says it's just a sprian. there is swelling. my finger look's like a mans finger. but now i have this bruis on my finger now that was smaller last night. my finger feels much stiffer then it did last night. but less painful, that's probably because i took advil though. . is this normal

It's normal. The bruiseing is from further tissue damage that occurs after you get injured. Try and keep it wrapped so you don't continue tearing the tissue before it can heal back. The bruising is blood cells that have escaped from damaged tissue btw, and in about a week or so it should go away. As the bruise breaks down it will change colors and go from black to a yellow to a green color. If the bruise stays black it implies you are continuing to bleed (minor) which would imply poor/slow healing...or that you have used it too much.

Also the stiffness will persists for weeks or months depending on the severity...but the bruiseing should not persist.

yep, its totally normal. Actually two of my friends had this same thing happen to them this year in basketball and the same thing happened to them. It looks ugly, i know, but it will go away eventually. Theres not much you can do about it.

Yes it's normal.
"What Is a Bruise?
A bruise, also called a contusion (pronounced: kun-too-zhen) or an ecchymosis (pronounced: eh-ky-moe-sis), happens when a part of the body is struck and the muscle fibers and connective tissue underneath are crushed but the skin doesn't break. When this occurs, blood from the ruptured capillaries (small blood vessels) near the skin's surface escapes by leaking out under the skin. With no place to go, the blood gets trapped, forming a red or purplish mark that's tender when you touch it - a bruise. Bruises can happen for a lot of reasons, but are mostly the result of bumping and banging into things - or having things bump and bang into you. Fortunately, as anyone who's ever sported a shiner knows, the mark isn't permanent."

You obviously broke some small veins that bled. Ice it today. Tomorrow ice and alternate with heat. Advil is great..will help w/the inflammation.
If it throbs, try to keep it at chest level or a little higher, this will make the blood flow slower and stop the throbbing.

It's very normal. The bruise under your skin is called hematoma. You have busted vessals under the skin. You probley need to heat it and ice it a couple of times to get some of the stiffness out of it.

Yes it's normal. Just a little bleeding under the skin.

Yes, with any swelling stiffening is to be expected. Advil (aspirin or ibuprofen) can reduce swelling as can icing the area. If the finger is dislocated the quickest way to help healing along is to provide tension on the finger (pull on it gently). This is safe to do as long as it is not a break or fracture.

normal =] it just happend from tearing the tissue!

hope it feels better!!

when u jam a finger a tiny blood vessel in your finger pops, this is what causes the bruise, its stiff because its swelled up and its not easy to move you finger when its swollen do little finger exercises to help the stiffness
