Darvocets not strong enough?!

Question: Yesterday my doctor prescribed me Darvocet for Scoliosis to hold me over until I see an Orthopedic doctor. My back pain is reaaly horrible & the Darvocets are helping much. They make the pain less intense but still there enough to bother me. Should I call my doctor to see if he can prescribe something stronger? I dont want him to think I just want the drugs to get high because that is not the case at all. I think Lortabs are stronger but I cant take them (makes my stomach hurt). So if he does call me in something stronger what will it most likely be?

Darvocets are a strong opiate and, contain codine. Tramadol is an Rheumatism opiate that's a prescription med. Ask your doctor for vicodine, I wouldn't go any stronger until you find out the exact nature of your problem and, what they're going to do.

Sometimes the neurons in the brain fool us by insisting they need another pill, this is to feed their own needs not ours or, the pain. Two pills will not help any more then one so, don't over do it Pal, you could be headed for a addict stage. Keep it cool.

Lay with a pillow under you knees. try and get a piece of 3/4 inch plywood under your mattress at night. Sleep with the pillow under your knees also. It's miserable but, better then getting hooked.

Try ultram (generic is tramadol) it is a non-narcotic pain pill and slightly more effective than darvocet. You can also get prescription ibuprofen that is 800 mg, a much higher strength than over the counter ibuprofen.
I don't recommend ANY narcotic pain pillers. They are highly addictive, and a vast majority of back pain patients develope addictions to them. Believe me, it's not fun, and if you can avoid it, do so.
None the less, if the pain is so intense, narcotic pain pillers may be the only option. After lortab, percocet (generic:oxycodone) is usually prescribed. Oxycodone may also cause stomach pains, but you will just have to try it out. Some people get sick with vicodin but not percocet, and visa versa. You just have to see how your body reacts to each.

Yes, call your doctor & tell him you need something stronger. As for what he will prescribe, I have no idea. There's a pain killer called Lyrica, but it may not be strong enough.

Darvocets ARE a narcotic; the only thing stronger than that which you might get will also be a narcotic.

It would most likely be Oxycodone/contin or Methadone.. those are about the only things that are stronger, aside from the obvious.. morphine, fentanyl. Heavy stuff all, be very careful.

Darvocets are terribly weak and ineffective. There are a number of other possiblities. Ultram is a posibility. Another is pentazacine (Talwin). Then there is that old standby, codeine. Then there are oxycodone and hydrocodone. Unfortunately most of the opioid pain relievers cause onset nausea, for at least a few minutes. An antinausea drug can be given if needed.

Definitely call your doctor. There are many pain meds that can be prescribed. Your doctor will be able to work with you to find one that is appropriate.

I think it is really not right for me to try to guess what your doctor may prescribe for you. I just don't have the expertise.

Some interesting reading about pain meds is http://www.theacpa.org/documents/ACPA%20...

This won't tell you what will work and what won't, nor will it say what is appropriate for scoliosis, but it will tell you a bit about the various pain meds.

Darvocet is a synthetic and wont do much. first check with your dr. but they will most likely will switch it to vicoden or percocet 5 mg. if that don't help they may increase it to 10 mg but if it hurts your stoach it is probably the acetaphetamin in it so have your dr. prescribe vicoprofen which cantains ibprofren .it will be much easier on your stomach
